ROSS KEMP RETURNS TO GLASGOW TO FILM BRIDGE OF LIES NEW SERIES

ROSS Kemp’s hit BBC One daytime quiz show Bridge of Lies is returning to Glasgow for a third series, and the primetime celebrity series will also be back for series two.

The new celebrity episodes (8x45) will air in primetime, while regular episodes (25x45) of theSTV Studios-produced show will follow on BBC One Daytime, both filmed in Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall and coming in 2024.

Host Ross Kemp said: “I’m overwhelmed at the response we’ve had from audiences for this show. It’s great for all the family to get involved in, both in the day and on Saturday evenings. Hosting Bridge of Lies, with all its jeopardy, tension and hilarious moments, is one of the most enjoyable parts of my year, so I’m delighted it’s been recommissioned by the BBC and can’t wait to get back filming in Glasgow.”

Theshowbizlion.com has met former Eastenders star Ross during his previous visits to Glasgow - going back as far as one of his guest appearances at the now defunct Privilege nightclub, formerly Bonkers, and we hope to catch him once again when he arrives here.

Rob Unsworth, Head of BBC Daytime comments: “Bridge of Lies has been a real hit with Daytime audiences, so I’m delighted to be bringing it back for a third series. It’s a unique and winning format, and Ross does a brilliant job making contestants feel at ease when they’re under pressure. I know viewers will be as excited as I am to see it return.”

Bridge of Lies sees teams of contestants competing for cash by crossing a bridge made up of stepping stones across the studio floor. Each stepping stone has a different option, and the players must try to get from A to B by stepping on the truths and avoiding the lies, or risk falling off the bridge and out of the game. Series three is currently looking for contestants to take part*.

Gary Chippington, Creative Director of Entertainment at STV Studios, says: “We are so proud of this show. It’s gone from strength to strength and we were delighted by the reaction to the latest series and celebrity specials from audiences and critics alike. Our wonderful host, Ross Kemp, plays a huge part in the show’s success, and we’re looking forward to being back in the Glasgow studio with him, some brilliant new contestants and our fantastic production team later this year.”

The first series of Celebrity Bridge of Lies featured teams of soap actors, pop icons, comedians, radio broadcasters, Strictly stars, sporting legends, TV presenters, and some of the most memorable queens from Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK.

* You can apply to be a contestant on series three via BBC Take Part: https://www.bbc.co.uk/showsandtours/take-part/bridge-of-lies

EASTENDERS STAR ROSS KEMP RETURNS TO GLASGOW

EASTENDERS Star and documentary maker Ross Kemp is returning to Scotland for hit BBC One quiz show Bridge of Lies.

The fun series is moving to primetime for a new series featuring teams of celebrity contestants, while a second nail-biting daytime series with contestants from across the UK has also been commissioned for BBC One Daytime.

The new celebrity episodes (8x45) will air in primetime in early 2023, while regular episodes (25x45) of the STV Studios-produced show, filmed in Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall, will follow on BBC One Daytime later in 2023.

Ross Kemp said: “I felt sure we hadn’t seen the last of that formidable bridge! Hosting this show, with all its jeopardy, tension and hilarious moments, was one of the most enjoyable parts of my year and I’m delighted that it’s been recommissioned by the BBC.

“The Bridge of Lies is tailor-made for a celeb version so I’m looking forward to putting teams of famous faces to the test. My main tip for them? No matter who you are or what you do, the bridge makes allowances for no one!”

The first series of Bridge of Lies became the BBC’s best-performing daytime quiz show of the previous 12 months when it aired in March this year, with episodes achieving audiences of over one million.

Gary Chippington, Creative Director of Entertainment at STV Studios, said: “We were delighted by the reaction to the first series of Bridge of Lies from viewers and critics alike, and it’s fantastic that the BBC has so much faith in the format to not only commission another daytime series, but a celebrity primetime version too. We can’t wait to get back into the studio in Glasgow with the incomparable Ross Kemp later this year.”

Series two is currently looking for contestants to take part*.

BBC Commissioning Director Kate Phillips said: “Bridge of Lies was a big hit with Daytime audiences, so to bring it back for a second series and commission a primetime version is very exciting. I’m really looking forward to seeing our competitive celebrities deal with the pressure of the bridge and the pressure of being in the funny and formidable company of Ross, our superb host.”

The first series of Bridge of Lies was commissioned by BBC Daytime as part of a competitive initiative to find innovative new quiz formats made in Scotland. Celebrity Bridge of Lies has been ordered by Kate Phillips, Commissioning Director for the BBC, while series two has been recommissioned by Lindsay Bradbury, Acting Head of Daytime & Early Peak. The Commissioning Editors are Alex McLeod and Neil McCallum.

Both series will again be produced by STV Studios, with Gary Chippington, STV Studios’ Creative Director of Entertainment, continuing to serve as Executive Producer. International format sales, outside of the US, are handled by BBC Studios Distribution.

DOCTOR WHO DAVID TENNANT DISSED BY FORMER DOCTOR WHO PETER DAVIDSON AT EVENT

DOCTOR Who's David Tennant was dissed by former Doctor Who Peter Davison in front of his fans.

Scots born David who recently filmed a new series of Good Omens in Edinburgh was at the Wales Comic Con.

After hundreds of fans joined a queue for his official meet and greet, Peter Davidson decided to take to social media to tell him he was  'not that special'.

The two men are actually related - with David's wife Georgia being Pete's daughter, so it was really all in jest.

Georgia posted up a picture of Peter in Telford and he joined the queue.

Peter said in his message: “Here I am protesting in front of the half mile queue for your husband” - #peterdavison #davidtennant #awkward @walescomiccon.

Peter wrote on a sign: "He's not THAT special

His confession brought more fans out in his favourite with one saying: : "Guarantee my daughter would be first in the queue to meet your dad again. Her love for him is boundless :)"

Another laughed: "So funny. Could Peter offer to help cut the queue time by taking the money for David - to be a good father in law - keep half himself and rubber stamp a David autograph for the tired end hot fans? Win Win!!"

McCoo artist Steven Brown in hospital after suffering stroke at his home

Ex Emmerdale star Adam will return as ex pupil Donte Charles, while Katie will play his wife Chlo Grainger.

Angela will return as headteacher Kim Campbell, once the the head of pastoral.

Waterloo Road last aired in 2015, and moved to Scotland to film three years later, leaving filming in Rochdale, Greater Manchester.

Adam posted a throwback snap of the pair as pupils at Waterloo Road.

He commented: "I’m so excited to go back to where it all started! Waterloo Road was a huge part of my life and career so to go back 15 years later is a dream come true.

"I feel so blessed to have been given this opportunity to get back to acting and doing what I love! I can’t wait to see some old faces and some new. I know this series is going to be the best one yet…"

Katie from Leeds showed of a photo of the three reading their scripts and wrote: "Big news! I'm going back to school! I'm so so excited to be returning to @waterlooroad reunited with @adamthomas21 and @theangelagriffin and loads of new faces yet to be revealed. Coming to @bbciplayer later this year. #waterlooroad.

"I am incredibly excited to be returning to Waterloo Road - loved by all who make and watch it! Chlo was my first professional acting role, and I feel so lucky to be part of the show again. I can't wait to see what stories unfold!"

Angela added: 'Here it is!!! My big news! I'm going back to school! I'm ridiculously excited to be returning to @waterlooroad as Kim Campbell…. But this time, she's the HEAD."

'I'm reunited with the brilliant @adamthomas21 and Katie Griffiths @kaytgriff (Donte and Chlo all grown up) and loads of new faces yet to be revealed. Coming to @bbciplayer later this year!"

Executive producer Cameron Roach said: 'Waterloo Road will continue its reputation for kickstarting, supporting and enabling careers both in front of and behind the camera, in a truly inclusive way, from our base in Greater Manchester.'

Actors who used to come to Greenock t film for the series included Lip Service's Heather Peace, Bridgerton's Regé-Jean Page and Phoebe Dyvenor, Loose Women panellist Denise Welch and Hollyoaks actress Chelsee Healey.

The former Greenock Academy was used as location for the BBC TV series and many local children had roles as background actors in it.

One fan said of the return:"Waterloo Road coming back reminds me that half the kids I went to school with were backing characters in it. They'd go to Greenock for a weekend then come back like "I got to die in an explosion woo!"

Another added: "OMG! Its actually coming back, and returning to Greater Manchester rather than Greenock."

LINE OF DUTY STARS TIPPED FOR STRICTLY

Vicky McClure 4/9 From 11/10 To Take Part In Strictly Come Dancing

The rumour mill is in full swing as to which famous faces will be signing up to take part in the 19th series of Strictly Come Dancing and Line Of Duty star Vicky McClure is the latest name being well backed.

The actress could be swapping her police uniform for the sequins as she is being eyed up for the celebrity dance contest which will air later this year. McClure played Detective Inspector Kate Fleming in the hugely popular Line Of Duty and Strictly bosses are reportedly eager to snare one of the starring cast for the dancefloor to compete for the glitterball.

BoyleSports chalked up potential contenders this week with Vicky McClure introduced as a 11/10shot, but those odds were quickly snapped up as the 37-year-old is now just 4/9 to take part, with colleague Gregory Piper, who played villain PC Ryan Pilkington, at 3/1.

Other names in the mix include Good Morning Britain presenter Alex Beresford who is one of the favourites to be involved at 1/5, and ex-House of Commons Speaker John Bercow who is rated a 2/1 shot.

Sarah Kinsella, Spokesperson for BoyleSports commented: “The build-up to the next series of Strictly Come Dancing is already starting to gather pace and following the success of Line Of Duty, it would be no surprise to see its stars approached. Vicky McClure is a likely candidate now 4/9 from 11/10 to compete for the glitterball while Good Morning Britain presenter Alex Beresford is one of the firm early favourites to be hitting the dancefloor.”

TWO DOORS DOWN GETS A SPECIAL CHRISTMAS OUTING

WE can hear the jungle drums and the jingle bells as BBC Two comedy Two Doors Down is coming calling this Christmas.

It was announced in the spring that the award-winning Scottish comedy will be returning to UK screens for a fifth series on BBC Two next year.

But in a surprise move, theshowbizlion.com can now reveal that the BBC has now also signed up for a Christmas special of the comedy to go out this December on BBC Two and BBC Scotland.

The Christmas special will be filmed in line with Covid-19 industry guidelines but will be taking a side-step from the current pandemic to focus on laughs.

Steven Canny, Executive Producer at BBC Studios Comedy which makes the series in Scotland said: “I’m delighted that Two Doors Down is going to give people the neighbourly get-together they have been missing out on in recent times. Eric, Beth, Colin, Cathy, Ian, Gordon and, of course, Christine get together to celebrate in the way that only they can. This special episode is the complete package of uncomfortable comments, barbed compliments and, of course, a ton of laughs.”

Further details of the Christmas special will be released at a later date but it will feature Arabella Weir as Beth and Alex Norton as Eric - the long-suffering Bairds  - and Elaine C Smith as Christine, Doon Mackichan as Cathy and Jonathan Watson as her husband Colin Whyte, Jamie Quinn as the Bairds’ son Ian and Kieran Hodgson as his boyfriend Gordon.

Graeme ‘Grado’ Stevely and Joy McAvoy, who play young couple Alan and Michelle, will not feature in the Christmas special but will be back for the fifth series, which is due to be recorded and shown next year.

Two Doors Down was launched with a Hogmanay special at the end of 2013 before going onto become the much loved series. It last had a Christmas special in 2018, with its fourth series going on to air in 2019. It has received multiple awards including the Best Comedy award at the 2017 Royal Television Society Scotland Awards and Elaine C. Smith won Best Actress at the BAFTA Scotland Awards in 2018. It is one of BBC Two and BBC Scotland’s top performing comedies. Over the course of 2020, Two Doors Down has been shown on the BBC Scotland channel, with all four series available to watch on BBC iPlayer where it has been gathering an army of new fans. In total the four series have amassed more than 30m requests on BBC iPlayer. It is a BBC Studios Comedy production, written by Simon Carlyle and Gregor Sharp.

The fifth series had been re-commissioned by Shane Allen, Controller of BBC Comedy, and Patrick Holland, Controller of BBC Two, who also gave the go-ahead for the Christmas 2020 special.

BBC DRIVETIME PRESENTER STOPPED FOR DRINKING NON ALCOHOLIC BEER

BBC Scotland Drivetime host John Beattie  was stopped in his car after someone reported him to the police - because they though he was drink driving.
But John,62, revealed he had been driving from a lookalike bottle of alcohol free beer.
Former rugby union player John, who lives in Glasgow’s west end, had been in holiday in Islay and was making his way back to the city when he was stopped en route at Loch Lomonside by a police car.
The health conscious presenter who also hosts BBC Scotland telly news show The Nine told fans that he’d been seen by someone jumping into his car in Inveraray after being spotted drinking from a beer bottle alongside his fish and chips last night.
He explained he was driving non alcoholic beer to the two officers who stopped his car but was breathalysed during the incident.
Posting up pictures of himself getting breathalysed and questioned by the police John said: “After an amazing holiday on Islay. Someone in Inveraray told the police I’d been drinking beer at the harbour last night before jumping back in my car again. They pulled me over blue lights etc on Loch Lomondside..... The reading was zero. I was using up an alcohol free bottle with excellent fish and chips. The lads were ok with me taking the picture. So, back to work today.”

Followers online were quick to reply to John with Jim Newlands saying: “ No big deal having to do a breath test......better safe than sorry. I take it from your tweet you have assumed it was a malicious phone call?”
Indy Oilman added:” U now might feel 1% of what Alex Salmond felt , mind if we call u a drink driver for the rest of your life even if u got off ?”
In 2003 John was chairman of the Scottish government physical activity taskforce to improve the health of the nation through exercise and oversaw a review in 2008, 'Let's Make Scotland More Active'.
Two years ago he was involved in a road accident after being knocked off his bike by a driver who was blinded by sunlight. At the time John feared he had a broken rib and lamented that he should have had a camera on him to capture the accident.
The legal drink drive limit in Scotland is lower than anywhere else in the U.K.
The legal alcohol limit is 50g in every 109ml of blood, and the breath limit is 22mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

KIRSTY YOUNG SPOTTED FOR FIRST TIME SINCE BREAK FROM DESERT ISLAND DISCS

Beverley Lyons
SCOTS presenter Kirsty Young has been spotted for the first time since taking a break from Dessert Island Discs last year.
The 50 year old host who was forced to take time off last August due to being diagnosed with chronic pain condition Fibromyalgia,  visited Glasgow  styling salon Taylor Ferguson.

SCOT SQUAD OFFICER KAREN GETS HER TEETH INTO DAKHIN PANCAKE

SCOTS Squad’s Officer Karen might have tackled a few big cases in her time, but she’s never got her teeth into  something like this!
Actress Karen Bartke was dining in Glasgow’s Dakhin restaurant when she was presented with the three foot in diameter whopper made from rice, lentil, a bit of sugar and salt.
The massive gluten free dosas as they are known in South India can be filled with mashed potatoes, chicken, lamb, seafood or even ice cream, or other treats for those who like a bit more sugar.

Karen revealed that her character Officer Karen would be particularly chuffed as she is gluten intolerant.

Keen said: “It is the biggest pancake I’ve ever seen in my life. I’m quite afraid of it because it is just vast. I’m not sure I have a frying pan big enough to make it. Ironically officer Karen is gluten intolerant so this is the ideal pancake for me as Officer Karen.
We established that in a really early one because Bobby came in and wanted to give me Whoopsy’s and I said I couldn’t take them because I was gluten intolerant. This is the ideal restaurant for Officer Karen because she can’t have gluten. Looking through it is like looking through the Clyde Tunnel.

Karen is about to star in There's Something About Mary Queen of Scots tackling one of the country's most well-known and loved figures at the Flying Duck on March 15.

It’s part of the Comedy festival but she’s open to other roles and looks up to Olivia Coleman as an actor she’d love to enmulate. She said: “I’d kill to do something like Broadchurch.”

Karen says she’s often given roles because of the dark circles under her eyes.

She laughed: “I make a really convincing shift worker because of my dark circles. In the make up and hair at Coronation Street where I was playing a Doctor I said to the lady that under my eyes was the black hole of concealer because it sinks in instantly and she told me ‘That’s good, we like that in our doctors.’
I look like I’ve not slept. I need to get a fire service job and an ambulance job and maybe a social worker just to do all your major shift services.”

In the meantime talented Karen is looking forward to series five of Scots Squad and said: “It is due to go out on the new BBC Scotland channel and then I think BBC 1 Scotland. I’m really proud of the show. It’s got a lovely heart and real empathy for the police’s function.”

STILL GAME'S JACK AND VICTOR GIVES SCOTS PATIENT SPECIAL SUPPORT

A Scots hospital patient with a rare genetic disease was thrilled to bits when she received a get well message from Still Game's Jack and Victor.
Sharon McNeilly, 43, from Cumbernauld suffers from the rare condition Von Hippel Lindau syndrome, an inherited disorder causing multiple tumours, both benign and malignant in the central nervous system.
Only 4-500 people in the Uk suffer from it and symptoms of the condition include headaches, problems with balance and walking, dizziness, weakness of the limbs, vision problems, and high blood pressure.
Sharon who has already had four brain operations to remove rumours as well as spinal surgery is due to go in for adrenal and whippes surgery on Monday.
Her husband Andrew who is recovering from cancer himself bumped into actors Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill as they filmed around Glasgow this week and asked if they would send a special message to her.
The lads went one better by videoing themselves in character delivering a humorous get well message that looks like an excerpt from Still Game.
In their message Greg says: "Hello Sharon we hear that you are recovering from a major operation."
Ford adds: "We're here to say we're wishing you all the well in your recovery and we hope that you're Still Game."
Greg then continues: "That's right Make sure you get lots of rest and that this dumpling makes all your teas and all your dinners and all your breakfasts. Get your goonie on, your telly on. Get well soon darling.
And Ford who then jokingly breaks his walking stick in half chips: "Otherwise I'll be snapping the stick.
Sharon who managed to get home for a few days from hospital before the big op said: "I can't stop smiling about this. Ford and Greg are absolutely fantastic and I've been a fan of Still Game ever since it first was performed as a stage show years ago. I'm absolutely over the moon that I have a personalised Jack and Victor message."
Sharon's husband Andrew added: "The lads were only too happy to put a smile on her face in between filming. I've had a similar operation to my wife's when I had cancer and I know it's a big op. She had to take time off her job at SSE Scottish Hydro as a result of her illness and had been trying to stay positive throughout this. Ford and Greg really managed to make her smile with their unique message."

GLASGOW WOMAN HAUNTED BY KNIFE LOVING DOLL

A Scots photographer reckons her 100 year old doll might be haunted - but she's vowed not to get rid of her because she loves her.

Natalie Mellon, 33, from Glasgow inherited the antique doll after her father in law's friend found her in an old attic.

But ever since she's had her in the house, weird things keep happening.
Natalie who has now dubbed the doll 'Annabelle' after the horror movie where a seemingly innocent doll has a life of its own, said: "Annabelle was given to me about a year ago by one of my father in law's friends who found a load of things in an old attic. I've always loved old antiques and loved her straight away. She does look a bit creepy but I wasn't freaked out when I saw her. I have four big dogs but they are absolutely terrified of her and won't go in the same room. We sarcastically named her Annabelle after the doll in the horror film."

Natalie, who lives in the Irish countryside, has always been interested in the supernatural but has never actually encountered anything strange before.

She said: "I've stayed in supposedly haunted houses before but nothing has ever happened. As well as my dogs barking incessantly at Annabelle she has got up to a few wee tricks. One of my friends stayed the night and heard a tapping noise outside the bedroom. There were no windows or doors open but in the morning she found Annabelle outside the room and she said she wasn't there before she went to bed. She thought I'd put her there for a laugh but I was sound asleep."
Most recently Annabelle appeared to have made a kitchen cupboard open and a knife slide off a shelf while Natalie was messing around taking selfies on her phone.
The incident was captured on video.

Natalie said: "I was literally taking a selfie but hit record by mistake and just went with it to make a video. Then the knife flew off the shelf and the cupboard door swung open. and I just about wet myself and shouted on my partner to come through."
She added: "I'm not easily terrified and found it quite funny afterwards. I'm sure there's got to be a logical explanation."

After Natalie made a video telling us about Annabelle she said there was a huge bolt of lightening outside.

She said: "I actually put her away last night for the first time. I swear im a ballsy little s*** and always stayed myself in the countryside bit when I came into this kitchen last night I swear I was freaked out. I kept looking at that cupboard and if it had done that again when I was here by myself I'd have died with my legs in the air. Annabelle can stay out in the shed for now."

Excerpts of this article have since appeared in the Daily Record, The Star, ITV and BBC.
