GLASGOW RESTAURANT COMES UP WITH HOMEMADE VEGAN PANEER

THE  Glasgow Indian restaurant that was the first in the U.K. to go totally nut free has just come up with a brand new vegan paneer cheese.
The Dhabba restaurant in the city’s Candleriggs has always led the way in trendsetting North Indian cuisine and was keen to provide its vegan customers with a taste of their famous homemade paneer cheese.
The eaterie, which already had an extensive vegan choice, as well as its chicken, lamb, fish and vegetarian dishes, has just relaunched it’s vegan menu to give even more choice to its dairy and egg free  customers.
It’s new menu features paneer handmade from soy milk (not tofu) to give a traditional taste with all the benefits.
There are currently three vegan paneer main dishes on offer - Paneer Shimla -  with peppers and onions, Palak Paneer
- a robust preparation of paneer and spinach leaves, and  Paneer Makhani Masala - a vegan cottage cheese in a tomato- based rich, creamy sauce.
All the paneer dishes are £12.95 and join other vegan delights like Subzi Tak-a-Tak with Indian squash, bitter gourd, cauliflower, aubergines and okra, Bharwan Aloo- Roasted potato stuffed with chopped vegetables and Khumb Gajar Mutter- A medley of mushrooms, carrots and green peas in a medium sauce of browned onions, tomato and ginger.
Dhabba owner Navdeep Basi said: “At Dhabba we have always taken pride in offering quality dishes whilst pushing the boundaries of Indian cuisine. The ancient art of Paneer making is something our chefs are very skilled at and we thought it would be good to create something special for our vegan customers.
We have a totally bespoke vegan menu on offer for them which now joins our other chicken, lamb, fish and vegetarian menus. We have a large range of gluten free dishes and are totally nut free. It’s been interesting and flattering to see other restaurants around the globe following our lead. We hope to set the trend with our soy milk based vegan paneer once again.”

WILL FERRELL SAYS HE DOESNT LIKE SCOTLAND

WILL Ferrell says he loves Scotland and is planning to return after a successful shoot in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

The Anchorman star who has been in Scotland to shoot the Eurovision Netflix movie with Pierce Brosnan, Demi Lovato and Rachel McAdams was in fun loving form when theshowbizlion.com met him.

Will has just visited Glasgow’s The Spanish Butcher for a spot of dinner with his brother where they enjoyed a mammoth 35-day dry-aged 1.1kg porterhouse steak, alongside a 900g chateaubriand from Galician blond cattle in Northen Spain.

They also ordered double helpings of their addictive manchego mac and cheese topped with puffed paprika pork skin, after devouring their first portion.

Asked if he liked Scotland he told us:”No. I don’t like Scotland” before adding: “I love Scotland.”Will told us he’d been here recently to visit play golf and he’d enjoyed the game and the food.

He added: “I’ll come back soon.”

He also teased our chief lioness Bev about being a journalist in true Anchorman style.

We can’t wait to see him again.

FORD KIERNAN TALKS ABOUT THE AGONY HE ENDURED AFTER STILL GAME LIVE SHOW

Exclusive
Beverley Lyons
STILL Game’s Ford Kiernan has spoken for the first time about the agony and pain he endured before having to go under the surgeons knife following his last run of shows at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro.
The comedian and actor who will star as Jack alongside Greg Hemphill’s Victor as well as actors including Jane McCarry, Paul Riley, and Sanjeev Kohli in Still Game Live: The Final Farewell stage show from September 27 until October 13, endured a complex back operation following his run of shows in 2017.
Asked about any luxuries he’d indulged in since having success with his comedy, Ford said: “The starriest thing that I’ve done is that I had two of my vertebrae removed and never waited on the National Health to give me a date for it. I went round the corner to the Nuffield and I got them to whip it out and that’s something I couldn’t have done if I hadn’t been working on the telly. It was my lower back, vertebrae five and six.”
Ford said the operation took place following his last sell out run of Still Game: Bon Voyage shows at the SSE Hydro in February 2017. And he revealed he couldn’t go on stage without receiving medical treatment before each performance.
He added: “And it was just after I finished the Hydro in 2017. I was getting a cortisone injection into my spine in 2017 before every single show.”
Showing off the scar at the base of his back he added: ”Put it this way, before I got into Chewing the Fat they’d say ‘You know who would be ideal for this?’ - Stretch Kiernan. I did the damage lifting barrels off the back of a van when I was twenty one.”
Greg laughed: “The truth of the matter is there was nothing wrong with Ford back then. It was just a Daniel Day Lewis thing. I was slouching and he was committed to be the wee one and took two vertebrae out and that is commitment.”
Ford and Greg will be saying farewell to their beloved TV and stage characters following their final bout of stage shows in Glasgow.
Greg said: ”It’s one of my favourite things going to the Hydro to do the show and it’s great fun and it feels like the end of the road. It took us six or seven months to write it, to make sure it was a fitting show, picking up where the tv show left off. It’s like getting to be a rockstar for fifteen nights and it’s pretty cool. We’re not doing the Eagles. It’s the end.”
Ford said: “People say ‘Is it the same show as before?’ but we’ve written a brand new show because it’s the finale with the big splash at the end. In the last TV episode Jack and Victor walked into the mist and they were gone. It’s all down to interpretation. If you think they are dead you might get a surprise either way. If we were designing a funeral for Jack and Victor it would be a pire.”
Greg said: “Don’t say we killed them. Maybe we differ on this. My feeling is they live their life full. I don’t think anyone would invite 150 thousand people into an arena to make them cry. I think you can’t kill them off. It would be too sad. Jack and Victor have always been about life and living it to the full.”
Following the run, both men say they want to spend more time with their families.
Greg said: ”I’m celebrating my twentieth wedding anniversary in a week and I remember buying my mum and dad a gift for theirs. It’s really freaking me out. Twenty five is silver, fifty is gold and forty is ruby. There’s other things we want to do together down the line, together and separately.”
Ford added: “We’ve got a body of actors here who are dynamite and phenomenal not just for comedy bit for everything which we are extremely lucky to have. I’d be surprised if we don’t bump into them in some professional capacity in the future.”

SINGER NICHOLAS MCDONALD WANTS TWO FRONT TEETH AND OTHER STRAIGHT FOR XMAS

ALL Nicholas McDonald wants for Christmas is his straight front teeth.
The former X Factor singer has had a special brace fitted to his mouth in a bid to straighten up his front teeth - and he says he's doing his best not to get food stuck in it.
Motherwell lad Nicholas, who entertained at the Sun Pop Up Christmas shop earlier this week, revealed: "For Christmas, the teeth are getting done. I'm not getting veneers. I was going to get them. Vitality Edinburgh are doing the teeth and they are getting fixed. I just don't like them. The thing I've got in is like a see through brace and I need to take them out when I'm singing and eating which is a bit disgusting. I was initially meant to get train tracks but I said no. They're meant to be sore and it gives you a wee bit of a lisp which I've got so we've played it safe with the Invisalign. You need to keep it in for twenty two hours a day.
He laughed: "I feel like I'm about to go into a boxing match a wee bit. My teeth will ready in May next year so put it in the calendar."
Nicky has had a busy run up to the festive season and host his own party on Sunday.
He said: "I've been busy. I've got my own event that comes up this Sunday at Dalziel Park and I'm playing with a band and have a Take That tribute and Eddie Reid who is hosting it. Some of the proceeds go to Yorkhill Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity and Alzheimer's Scotland. It's just been rehearsals and everything this week so it's been busy."

XTRA, XTRA - READ ALL ABOUT IT! IRN-BRU'S LATEST STAR.

IT'S the first new permanent product from IRN-BRU in 35 years and theshowbizlion.com got an exclusive taste.
Admittedly we weren't dressed for the occasion - having being pleasantly interrupted during daily bootcamp complete with mud face mask - and we were lucky enough to get can number six in the production line.
As a long time lover of Scotland's other national drink we couldn't wait to get a taste and for those who like some extra pinch without the sugar XTRA delivers.
In the making for over a year, it has been created using the distinctive BRU recipe known only to owner Mr Robin Barr himself, his daughter Julie and only one other employee.
It includes even more of the IRN-BRU taste that consumers love but leaves out the sugar for a new flavour experience.
Only the third permanent variant to be added to the range, IRN-BRU XTRA is set to take Scotland’s shelves by storm when it is released on August 22.
Adrian Troy, AG Barr Head of Marketing said: “It’s clear that the market is changing and consumers want more choice. We’ve listened to this and have worked incredibly hard to not only develop IRN-BRU XTRA, but to make it available to buy this summer.”
"As a brand, strength and resilience is at the heart of everything we do and IRN-BRU XTRA is a total knockout. With the IRN-BRU secret recipe at its core, it delivers extra taste and no sugar. We’re confident it will be just the tonic for those that are keen to try something new and enjoy the bold IRN-BRU taste they love, without any sugar.”
