GLASGOW’S THE DHABBA GOES FOR MINI DISHES ON NEW MENU

Glasgow’s Dhabba restaurant is launching a brand new tapas style Small Bowl menu.
The North Indian venue in Glasgow’s Candleriggs is introducing Laghu Kund to its discerning customers from Sunday July 21.
The menu is designed for groups of diners who want to sample a whole load of dishes or curious individuals who want to try out more than one dish.
Owner Navdeep Basi said: “Small plate menus offer a greater choice for customers and can lead to a more communal dining experience too. You can order one of two dishes with a drink or go all out with five or six bowls for full on dining. Everything on our menu is cooked freshly to order and we wanted people to be able to try some new dishes as well as old favourites. We had fun making a little promo video to go along with it although obviously our small bowls are a bit larger than the ones we made for the video.”

On the new Laghu Kund (Small Bowl) menu you can try anything from Street Food dishes like Koliwada Jheenga with crispy king prawns, Hariyali Mokal with basil and lemon chicken and Dahi Bhalla lentil dumplings to Seafood like Rasedar Macchli Seabass fillet and Ajwaini Macchli Scottish monkfish.
The restaurant also has a whole lamb section with delights like Laal Maas including red chillis, onions and poppy seeds and Paneer, Chicken and Vegetarian sections to the menu.
Diners can then choose accompanying breads, rice, salads and pickles to complement their dishes.
Bowls range in price from £3.45 to £9.95 and Dhabba’s kitchen is nut free with some gluten free options too.

CELEBRATE THE FULL MOON WITH A CHINESE BANQUET FROM GLASGOW’S JIMMY LEE

I had my first taste of moon cake to celebrate the Chinese full moon festival at Lychee Oriental on Tuesday.
(Please don’t confuse moon cake with space cake - they are both very different things! and the moon cake was sweet like a pastry made of tablet.)
I enjoyed a full five course banquet prepared by telly chef and all round good guy Jimmy Lee at the restaurant.
It was a real delight with everything from an incredible Ginger Broth Congee (like savoury porridge but so moreish) , to Crispy Wontons with Soy Butter Dip, Five Spice Beef Flank Stew with Pak Choi and Steamed Rice, and sweet dessert of Hong Kong Peanut Butter French Toast with Banana Fritter.
Jimmy is a a real whizz when it comes to cooking - and I’m so glad he quit his job in financial services to become a master chef.

This September, people around the world will celebrate China's Mid-Autumn Festival, or Moon Festival. As the last days of late summer fade and the leaves on the chestnut trees begin to turn a golden brown, families come together in the cool, crisp air to enjoy a feast under the glow of the full moon. Red lanterns strung with riddles dance in tree branches, while the sweet fragrance of osmanthus flowers wafts through the evening air.
Lychee Oriental Head Chef, Jimmy Lee has created an impressive five-dish 'Chinese Moon Festival' menu that includes, Ginger Broth Congee, Crispy Wontons with Soy Butter Dip, Five Spice Beef Flank Stew with Pak Choi and Steamed Rice, Hong Kong Peanut Butter French Toast with Banana Fritter and finally, Chinese Tea served with traditional Mooncake.
It is available at £30 until October 25 and theshowbizlion.com gives it a massive thumbs up.

MEZZE BRINGS GREEK AND TURKISH TASTES TO THE CLYDESIDE

GLASGOW may not always bring sunshine but now we can pretend to bask in the heat of the Mediterranean – with the new Mezze restaurant.
The stylish restaurant and bar has officially opened down by the Clyde on the top floor of the North Rotunda.
It's perfect for pre concert grub before a night at the SEC Hydro with a real range of dishes from nibbles to full on mains. The split-level bustling contemporary foodie oasis offers impressive seafood dishes, mouthwatering chargrilled meats and kebabs alongside spectacular views out across the River Clyde.
And for veggies or those with gluten free requirements there are plenty of options like hummus, aubergine and tzatziki dips to make sure you have a plate smashing time.

Led by head chefs, Alex Lioly and Ridi Mukja, their modern dishes shine on the menu, as Mezze showcases the diverse Mediterranean culture and landscape – with Greek, Cypriot, Ionian islands and Turkish influences that reinvent classic fare.
The dishes – a combination of small and big plates have been created to share and to complement the casual, laid-back atmosphere and vibe of the space.
Sharing specialities include whole chargrilled sea bream, slow-cooked kleftiko lamb shoulder – a real show stopper, slow cooked chicken tava stews, and seafood saganaki stews that are perfect for bringing friends and family together.

Designed by CM Design Consultants, the 60-seater restaurant boasts postcard blue walls, comfortable and colourful fabric and leather booths and white washed tables and chairs that will transport you to port of Thessaloniki whilst you dine.
For drinkers, a relaxing bar area is set under a spectacular Santorini-inspired blue dome feature ceiling that provides a dreamy oasis for cocktails or a quiet glass of wine before or after dinner.

Greek beers and lagers come in all different grades from super light and fruity to something a little punchier.
Restaurateurs, Kevin Campbell and Toni Carbajosa – who own Greek-Cypriot restaurant Halloumi and Rioja tapas and cocktail bar in Finnieston are thrilled to open the doors.
Kevin Campbell said: "Modern Greek and Mediterranean cuisine is making waves at the moment and we wanted to create a dining space that pays homage to our chefs heritage. Ridi and Alex have created dishes that reinvent what they ate growing up in with a twist and the result is modern and fresh.
“Sharing is a culinary tradition and we wanted our guests to come and experience the magic of Mezze and feel as if they've stepped into the warmth of the Mediterranean Aegean sea.”
