MARTI PELLOW WILL PLAY TO JUST 200 PEOPLE IN GLASGOW HOTEL

MARTI Pellow will play to just 200 people for a special Greatest Hits Radio set at Radisson’s RED Glasgow this December. 

 

RED Sky Bar welcomes the former Wet Wet Wet frontman ahead of his OVO Hydro gig in March next year – and he’ll be showcasing classic songs and entertaining an audience of just 200 lucky Greatest Hits Radio listeners that have won their way into the gig.

KT TUNSTALL, WET WET WET, LUKE LA VOLPE SAVE SCOTTISH VENUES

KT Tunstall, Wet Wet Wet, Luke La Volpe, Be Charlotte, Fatherson and Hunter and The Bear are just some of the musicians supporting grassroots music venues this week. 

The Xcerts, Hue & Cry, Honeyblood, Anchor Lane, Kerri Watt, Seil Lien, Declan Welsh, The Jellyman’s Daughter and Bow Anderson also join host Vic Galloway to perform across three virtual stages on Friday June 19.

Luke La Volpe, who has already organised 2 successful fundraising events for Music Venue Trust’s #saveourvenues campaign said, “It’s an absolute surprise and honour to be invited to be a Patron for the Music Venue Trust. When I looked at who else they have as patrons I was in shock. The past few weeks have been difficult for absolutely everyone on the planet and I was thinking of ways I could do something positive and all I really have to do that with is music. When I came across the MVT and found out what they do for Grassroots venues it was a no brainer to put something together to help them and spread awareness. 

Every artist starts off in these grassroots venues, including all the other MVT patrons, however big they've got, and without them you have no music business. I’m glad to be part of such a great initiative and will do my bit to ensure that the venues survive and can have us all back playing in front of people before too long.”

 Stina Tweeddale aka. Honeyblood added, “I honestly don’t know where I would be without the grassroots venue touring circuit in the UK. Not only as an artist but as a music lover, these places are the building blocks of the musical community. WET WET WET PLAN NEW MATERIAL NEXT YEAR

WET Wet Wet have confirmed they are going back into the studio next year to record new songs, but the band admit they have some obstacles to overcome.

The Scottish hitmakers who have sold over 16 million records recently replaced front man Marti Pellow with Liberty X singer Kevin Simm.

Having toured in the last few months, the Sweet Little Mystery band have now confirmed that they are keen to get into the studio and make new tracks – their first misic release since 2013.

Graeme Clarke said: “We want to make new music and I think we all need a kick. It’s important because it’s always been a priority and that’s where I come from. It’s always been about trying to get new music and in this day and age it’s all radically changed. 

I can’t really see us going out on a tour and saying ‘Before we  play any hits, we’re going to play a new album man.’ We wouldn’t get away with that. We have to find a way of doing like what we used to do, of bleeding in new tracks. So for me, I think what’s going to happen is we will write a couple of tunes and will put it out maybe as an extended player an EP. Then maybe we can bring one or two into the set. That would be a way forward.
You know Neil and I have been venturing down. We’ve all been playing. Other musical jobs are up, so now we just need to set a bit of time and just go in and play.”

Graeme said the band will need to balance the old with the new. 

He explained:”If I came in with a 17-year-old get up and said ‘Hey guys how do I look man? It’s going to be pretty daft –that would be silly.‘ You know what I mean. I think in terms of musically we have to be true to the band and be true to who we are and what we are and who we are playing to. That plays a part. It’s exciting to write songs and I’m  excited about writing new music. You want to hear the hits and that’s unfortunately where we are in the musical world. And we can do a bit of that as well and hopefully sneak in a couple of tracks.”

Tommy Cunningham added: “Everyone has got different taste but I think the bottom line is it’s got to have a melody and it has to have structure. It has to make you smile and it has to lift you emotionally. Wet Wet Wet are about emotion so it shouldn’t be too hard a challenge. It shouldn’t be.”

Kevin is also keen to get a taste of Wet Wet Wet album sales. He joked: “I’ve not been party to these 16 million albums sales so at least 300 would be good.”

Neil said: “It’s exciting as well because we’ve got Kevin and we come from a different angle now. It’s something to really  forward to.”

WET WET WET WILL BE KINGS OF EDINBURGH CASTLE THIS SUMMER

WET Wet Wet will celebrate thirty years of their classic debut album Popped In Souled Out by taking over the stage at Edinburgh Castle.
Marti Oellow and the lads will play the famed Edinburgh landmark on Saturday July 15.
With huge hits including three UK No.1’s – ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’; ‘Goodnight Girl’; and ‘Love Is All Around’, the Glasgow lads have made an incredible impact with their music over the years, making them one of the most successful bands in British pop history.
Marti Pellow said: “It was a major career highlight when we took to the stage at Edinburgh Castle some 25 years ago. We are honoured to be asked back and it is sure to be a special moment when we take to the stage again.”
Graeme Clark added: “We’re coming back to the Capital to celebrate the anniversary of our Popped In Souled Out album and to do it on this scale at Edinburgh Castle some 30 years after its release is incredible.”

Having sold in excess of 15 million singles and albums to date, featured in the UK official singles and album charts for over an immense 500 weeks, the band have played to more than four million people in dozens of countries around the world.

The lads set a record by playing ten sold out shows at Glasgow’s SECC in 1995, when they were officially the most popular live act in the UK - even out-selling the Rolling Stones who were also on tour that year. Their most ‘2016 Big Picture Tour’ was an extensive 17-date arena tour that culminated in a sold out show at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow. The tour reached as far south as Plymouth and as far north as Inverness whilst covering all of England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland, giving fans all over the country the chance to see the band live. For the anniversary ‘Popped In Souled Out’ is being re-released as a 5 disk super deluxe edition that includes unreleased and rare material along with many extras. The band will be performing tracks from their classic debut at Edinburgh Castle as well as their greatest hits from over the past three decades.

MARTI PELLOW CRACKS UP PLAYING BADDIE IN SCOTS PANTO

MARTI Pellow made his Scots panto debut in Aladdin - and despite being serious baddie Abanazer - couldn't hold back the laughter as he mispronounced a rude word or two.
The Wet Wet Wet star took on a more sombre role as he showed off his bad boy vocals and evil laugh in the brilliant SECC panto which also included an incredible flying carpet, 3D creatures, giggles galore audience interaction and plenty of laughs from hilarious Wishee Washee character Johnny Mac who is a real star.
His improvised comedy  on stage with young children from the audience was a real highlight of the night.
There was even an elephant in the room - and it wasn't The Krankies and John Barrowman who for the first time in years were sadly missing from this year's panto.


At one point Marti was trying to pronounce the word Situation and ended up adding in an extra H after the S making the audience who included weatherman Sean Batty and footballer Ally McCoist  roar with laughter.
Marti himself burst into giggles.
The Wet Wet Wet singer had previously said he wasn't playing for laughs, adding: "Its so easy to be seduced by the sound of laughter but my comedy is in not acknowledging the comedy."
Clearly no one could resist in that particular s*ituation.
The panto is on until December 31 at the Clyde Auditorium.

MARTI PELLOW WILL BE CASTING SPELLS THIS CHRISTMAS IN GLASGOW

MARTI Pellow has put all the rumours behind him to confirm they he will join the cast of Aladdin at The SECC Clyde Auditorium.
The Wet Wet Wet star will be cackling away as he leads the cast in the role of the evil sorcerer Abanazar.
Glasgow's biggest Christmas show, which runs for three weeks from Saturday 10 to Saturday December 31 will see Marti joined by Glasgow panto favourite Johnny Mac as Wishee Washee.
As well as achieving some of the UK’s biggest number-one singles, Marti has regularly featured in the UK charts throughout his career, both as a solo artist and as the frontman to Wet Wet Wet.
The BRIT and Ivor Novello award-winning artist has released over twenty studio albums, has enjoyed over 25 hit singles and continues to sell out concert and arena tours across the UK.
He has also starred in numerous high-profile theatre productions in the West End and on Broadway, including Chicago, Blood Brothers and recently the sold-out, award-winning musical Evita for which he was nominated for Best Actor at the What’s On Stage Awards.
Last Christmas Marti made his pantomime debut for Qdos Entertainment in the record-breaking Birmingham Hippodrome production of Aladdin.

WET WET WET CATCH UP WITH MUMS AND FAMILIES AFTER TOUR

WET Wet Wet decided to catch up with their families in Glasgow  as soon as they finished the last date of their UK Big Picture tour in Inverness .
The band checked into a stylish city centre hotel to have a bit of a pamper and some downtime after travelling back from the Leisure Centre.
Keyboard player Neil Mitchell bumped into theshowbizlion.com as he went on walkabout and exclusively told us: "We had a great night on Saturday in Glasgow and now we're back here chilling. I'm going to see my mother now and hope she appreciates it and then I'll be off back down south to see my wife and family."
 He added: "It was brilliant to play to Scots crowds and we were so amazed at the response we got. It was lovely."
The lads play Live At Chelsea at the Royal Hospital in London on June 18.

WATCH Marti Pellow and the rest of his bandmates chill out before their SSE Hydro gig in this video filmed in an exclusive VIP box in the venue.  

Just minutes before  audience members made their way into the gig Marti and the lads who played an emotional homecoming show for the crowd, were watching over the arena. 

The band were the first official visitors to Clydesdale Bank's unique hotspot The Vault in the SSE Hydro before their sold-out performance at the 12,000-capacity arena on Saturday. 

The Vault gives gig goers the opportunity to upgrade ordinary tickets to a red leather sofa on their own secret balcony. 

All ticket holders need to do is to post a selfie on social media using #getmeinthevault for the chance to swap their seats to the couch. 

As The Wets relaxed into the comfortable red leather sofa on their own secret balcony, they had a laugh and joke about things.Graeme Clark suggested:  "You  can even ask the Clydesdale bank if they'll give you a free bar' while Marti added: "But they are quite tight, especially with inflation."  

The first winner of #getmeinthevault was Wets fanatic Kirstie Walls from Paisley who upgraded her friends Gail Morrison, Claire Pollock, and Yvonne Redmund to the couch. 

She said: “We love the Wets, we’ve been to see them on every tour since they started out, even in Marti’s purple suit days. When we bought tickets in October we didn’t think we’d end up with our own private couch and waitress so it made the night even better. We saw Marti and the boys tweet about it before the gig and decided to take part, but we weren’t expecting to win it – the gig was absolutely brilliant and an experience we won’t forget."
