THE BAFTA SCOTLAND AWARDS ARE HOTTING UP WOTH GUILT AND ELIZABETH IS MISSING AS FRONTRUNNERS

THE nominations for The British Academy of Film and Television Arts in Scotland (BAFTA Scotland) are in and Guilt is leading the way with five nominations alongside Elizabeth Is Missing with four nominations.

The very best talent in film, games and television produced in Scotland will be celebrated this year on Tuesday December 8. over the last year.

 First time nominees this year include Lois Chimimba (Group) Mirren Mack (The Nest) and Jamie Sives (Guilt) 

There’s also a new Audience Award in  

conjunction with Screen Scotland which sees productions including Black and Scottish, Guilt, 

Murder Trial: The Disappearance of Margaret Fleming, The Nest, Outlander and River City In the running, 

The Awards, which include two Outstanding Contribution Awards and the new Audience Award, will be presented at the digital ceremony by Edith Bowman who tells us she will miss the heckles this year, but not the cold of the red carpet. 

Edith will host a socially distant, closed-studio show alongside Sanjeev Kohli and other guest presenters. 

The ceremony will be live streamed from 19.00 GMT on BAFTA’s Facebook and YouTubechannels and followed by a highlights show on BBC Scotland at 22.00 GMT.  

Members of the public can cast their vote for the Audience Award from 10.00 GMT on 21 October until 17.00 GMT on 18 November on the BAFTA Scotland website (www.bafta.org/scotland).

Jude MacLaverty, Director of BAFTA Scotland, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be announcing our British Academy Scotland Award nominations, which highlight the phenomenal level of talent and creativity in the film, game and television industries within Scotland. We are also thrilled to welcome EE back as the Official Network Partner to the Awards this year and to be working in partnership with Screen Scotland on a brand new Audience Award. During these challenging times, TV has both entertained and informed the public, and it seems only fitting that the viewing public is given the chance to have their say. Although our Awards format is different this year, our passion for and commitment to recognising talent and celebrating achievement remains, and we are really looking forward to celebrating all of our nominees on 8 December.”

Edith Bowman, returning host of the ceremony, added: “I am very excited to be returning to host the British Academy Scotland Awards, albeit for a slightly different show this year. Now, more than ever, it is vital that we celebrate and recognise the achievements of the country’s film, games and television industries, reminding everyone of the importance and enjoyment of the arts.  This year’s list of nominees highlight yet again the wealth of creative talent and craft that exists in Scotland. I can’t wait to announce this year's winners on 8 December.”

NO PHOTOS AT GLASGOW CLUB

A Glasgow club is so underground that punters are asked not to take pictures. 

Rost in Glasgow at 49 Bell Street has already been running for three months and those in the know have already partied till the wee small hours in its bunker like space. 

The club which has a capacity of 270 has already played host to art school degree show bashes as well as some big name private parties but you’d never know unless you’d been. 

Director Paul Sweeney said: “We opened for three months without being on social media. We wanted to drive things underground and provide a safe space for the city’s creative and leftfield crowd.”

The club is so underground that guests are asked to adhere to a no photos policy.

 Paul said: “We request that people take no photographs and ask them if we can put a sticker on their camera phone before they come in. Everyone is always receptive to that. 

“If we are hosting a gig that is a bit different, but with regards to our clubnights we like of give people the anonymity they deserve. 

We’ve been opened a few months and have a  capacity of 270 in our main room. We also have an application pending to introduce a new cafe bar offering for Glasgow’s Merchant City within the premises.”

The interior of Rost, which means rust in German, has walls that oxidise over time. 

It’s very industrial and stripped back so that art students and club promoters can provide their own colour if need be. 

The club is fully operational every Friday and Saturday but has been hosting events on Thursday and Sundays as part of the art school degree programme. 

This Sunday it plays host to a founding member of the famous Acid Jazz label who is who playing a special DJ set. 

Eddie Piller is not only one of the founding members of the famed Acid Jazz label (along with Gilles Peterson), he’s also a founder of the legendary Blue Note club.
Acid Jazz started off the careers of The James Taylor Quartet, Jamiroquai, Brand New Heavies and many more.
He’s a man who brings serious clout with him and the Merchant City club  are thrilled to have been able to secure him for a four hour long DJ set from 10:30pm.
Eddie, who recently performed a set for Lauren Laverne on Radio Six music who will also be featuring the event, is just part of Rost’s celebrations for the Glasgow Jazz Festival.
The club also celebrated with an official after party for Mulatu Astatke at the fest on Friday.
Paul said: “This is our first year of involvement with the Jazz Festival. For a jazz based event the club has the atmosphere anyone would look for - a low ceiling basement with great acoustics. Our  live content is based on us providing a place for mostly electronic and visual performance.
On Sunday we welcome The Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra at 7:30pm for a full show before Eddie Pillar takes over for his set.

SCLUB 3 ARE COMING TO EDINBURGH’S SCOTFEST

NINETIES Pop legends S Club have confirmed they’ll be playing Scotfest at Edinburgh’s Ingliston this summer. 

The pop band now known as S Club 3  recently released their first new single Family in 14 years and can’t wait to perform at the family friendly nostalgia fest at the Royal Highland Centre on July 6 and 7.
They’re sure to get the crowd bopping away to hits including Don’t Stop Movin and Never Had A Dream Come True when they performs alongside headliners Boyzone, The Jacksons, 5ive, B*witched, Liberty X, East 17,  Five Star, Les McKeown’s Bay City Rollers and more at the family friendly fest.
Although in its first year. Scotfest is shaping up to be Scotland’s second biggest music festival with a capacity of 35,000 a day.
Organisers are making sure they cater for all the family with a Kids Zone, Petrolheads Zone and Carnival as well as offering fresh food from local suppliers and camping options from £10 upwards.
Festival boss Mark Bennett said: “We’re delighted to announce the addition of S Club to the bill and can’t wait to boogie away to their hits. As we know, there’s nothing like an S Club Party.”
The band now consists as a three piece with Jo O’Meara, Tina Barrett and Bradley McIntosh taking to the stage.

Adult day tickets start at £48 and tickets for children under 5 are free.
Gates to the main arena open at 2pm on the Friday and 10am on the Saturday and the venue is easily reached by car, bus and tram.
