DOCTOR WHO AND OUTLANDER STARS CELEBRATE AT THE BAFTA SCOTLAND AWARDS

DOCTOR Who stars Ncuti Gatwa and Peter Capaldi joined  Saiorse Ronan, Jack Lowden,   Dougray Scott, Sam Heughan, and more at the BAFTA Scotland awards.
The bash, was held at Glasgow’s Doubletree Hilton to celebrate the wealth of Scots talent in performance, production, and craft, in gaming,TV and film ad theshowbizlion.com took the opportunity to catch up with them.
Former Doctor Who actor Peter Capaldi was delighted to welcome new Scots Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa as the latter entered the red carpet shirtless in his two tone lapelled suit but the two never stood side by side until they mingled properly at the after party.
Ncuti was thrilled to be back in Scotland but remains as down to earth as ever despite his recent rise to fame through Sex Education and as the new Doctor.
The actor, who thanked the audience for welcoming him since getting his big Doctor Who role, said of his forthcoming adventure: “It’s going to be a really fun ride.”

Peter Capaldi also picked up his award for Outstanding Contribution to Film and TV thanked Armando Ianucci , Bill Forsyth and more on his speech.
He also joked that according to racial stereotypes his parents couldn’t be there cause ‘they are busy working in the chip shop’. He thanked them for his sarcasm and told Ncuti he was about to learn all about being Doctor Who - including spotting anoraks.
American Irish actress Saiorse Ronan made a separate entrance from her other half Jack Lowden and looked resplendent in her mustard strappy dress with pearl and tassel detail and strappy diamanté heels.
Outlander’s  Sam Heughan, in a striking blazer and polo neck combo with dark trousers, got the loudest cheer of the night as he greeted fans of the epic Starz time travel series.

The winner of the Audience Award who made a long acceptance speech pointing out all the work and money which Outlander has brought to Scotland, said: “It’s so nice isn’t it to be back here to celebrate Scottish film and TV and to see familiar faces as well which we haven’t been able to do with the pandemic. We may be a small country, a small affair but it’s a big celebration.”
Dougray Scott, who picked up the award for best actor TV for Irving Welsh’s Crime, said: “It was a long journey to get Crime to the screen. I sat with Irving Welsh 12 years ago. I’m a little bit nervous, but thank you so much. I really appreciate this. It means the world to me to get this award tonight. So thank you very much.”

Jack Lowden made a plea to those in the room to pledge money to help the film industry in Edinburgh following recent news of the demise of the Film House.

BUSTED IN GLASGOW AND OUTLANDER LATEST WITH RICHARD RANKIN

BUSTED rolled into Glasgow yesterday for a not so secret trip ahead of their tour date at the SSE Hydro on March 23.
The lads managed to fit in a wee visit to King Tuts Wah Wah Hut where they even hid a copy of vinyl for one fan to find once they’d gone - (it’s now been found to save you a trip) The lads also popped into the BBC where they have guested on Mrs Browns Boys alongside Paddy McGuinness who was also here for a flying visit. I’m so glad they are back and that I never caused any damage to them when I went paintballing with them inside the Radisson Hotel years ago. I just missed Matt Willis eye at one point. I guess I almost busted Busted.

OUTLANDER and Burnistoun star Richard Rankin is slightly worried about his next trip Stateside.
The fun actor is due to appear in Portland Oregan at the Wizard World convention on February 22-24.
He’s been to fan conventions before but this one has a twist.
As well as going on a whisky tasting session with Outlander fans, Richard also has an axe throwing session lined up.
He joked: “Mixing axe throwing and whisky is always a good idea. No one ever died doing this.”

I’m feeling musical after attending Glasgow’s Clyde college for the end of year music showcase.
It was great to watch promising musicians of the future including vocalist Keira Marks, xylophonist Erin Dalrymple and saxophonist Matthew Ruddy.  It’s put me in the mood for some of my own vocal lessons and I’m about to get some from the brilliant Robert Wishart who has trained up numerous Jim Diamond Award winners as well as helped Freddie Mercury tribute Gary Mullen fix issues he had with his voice.
Watch out for my next performance... out of the shower.

X FACTORS SAARA AALTO CONFESSES PASSION FOR OUTLANDER AND SAM HEUGHAN

FROZEN singer and former X Factor Star Saara Aalto is a secret Outlander and Sam Heughan fan.
I had the pleasure of speaking with the uber talented singer ahead of her opening tour gig at The Poetry Club SWG3.
She told me: “I love the Outlander book series so much and read it ten years ago and fell in love with Scotland because of the book.  When I first went into X Factor I was at the Edinburgh auditions and that moment changed my life so Scotland has special place in my heart. The first time I came to Glasgow was with the X Factor tour but last year when I did Glasgow Pride I came here with my fiancée and we made a road trip and hired a car and my girlfriend drove.  We tried to find  Culloden Battlefield and some others places from Outlander like the castle and I would have loved to meet Sam Heughan.”
Saara who was also asking after singers Emily Middlemas and Ryan Lawrie as well as Caitlyn Vanbeck during our convo was looking forward to showing off her classical and acoustic side as well as performing her big showgirl numbers.

LIZ HURLEY: SCOTS STAR SAM HEUGHAN IS MY CRUSH

OUTLANDER actor Sam Heughan has a new admirer in the form of Austin Powers actress and Estée Lauder model Liz Hurley.
The Royals star Liz admitted she was a huge fan of Scottish born Sam who is thirty seven years old but was worried he might be too young for her.
Liz, 52, who use to date Love Actually star Hugh Grant said: "I’ve currently got a crush on Sam Heughan, who stars in my favourite TV series, Outlander. He’s a big, sexy Scot but, sadly, much too young for me."
Sam has a 28 year old girlfriend Mackenzie Mauzy who he has been dating for several months.
It looks like the couple are still going strong after they were pictured together last week at Silverstone race track wishing the F1 team Sahara Force India the best of luck in Hungary.
Liz is currently single and certainly hasn't ruled out going with someone younger. She previously said in an interview: "Most of the people I meet also have ex-girlfriends or ex-wives and children. You have to accept that, or start dating men in their 20s, which is absurd. Though, I tell you, Joan Collins is married to a fabulous man 32 years younger than her. In which case, I can date an 18-year-old...anything goes

COUNTRY STAR REBA MCENTIRE VISITS OUTLANDER SETS IN SCOTLAND

SAM Heughan fan and legendary country singer Reba McEntire made a point of checking out the Outlander filming locations after her gigs at Scotland's Country 2 Country festival.
The US multi platinum selling Queen of Country who has sold more than 85 million records worldwide made a point of travelling through to Edinburgh at the weekend to see the recent Outlander filming locations.

Reba, who once told fans 'my favourite book is Outlander' and "I'd be Claire in an NY second: so long as she's with Jamie", checked out Glasgow Cathedral on her way to the Glasgow Armadillo, Jamie Fraser's home in Outlander as well as the cobbled streets of Edinburgh where the sci fi drama was recently filmed.

She told fans: "Neil and I got to see where Jamie Fraser lived in Outlander!!!!"
She's now been invited for a return visit to see even more by the Outlander production team and says she can't wait.

OUTLANDER'S SAM HEUGHAN IS PINEAPPLE HUNK

OUTLANDER'S Sam Heughan was at the centre of a pineapple mystery after he claimed the tropical fruit was thrown at him during filming.
Sam is filming the last block of series three of the US blockbuster in Scotland and admitted there had been some high jinx on set earlier today.
He said: "Day one...Pineapple has been thrown! @caitrionambalfe."
Sam's co-star Caitriona retorted with: "@SamHeughan in your face !!!"
Sam then replied: "Mmmm 2nd hand pineapple... My favourite."
Fans around the world then began to speculate what had exactly taken place with the pineapple in question.
Some thought it was a code word for something else a bit naughty saying: "Pineapple...is that code for something? Because you know what pineapples stand for..."
Kelsey Kingsley said: "Getting visuals. I'm about to go to bed. #PineappleNightmare"
Jill Millander added: @I don't know what's going on, but I like it! #SamcaitBanterIsTheBest"
And James Loftis volunteered: "No, they throw pineapples as a form of ancient Celtic ritual, to attain genuine Celtic mentality."
It's not the first time a pineapple has been at the centre of controversy.
Scots dance music star Calvin Harris hit the headlines when he stormed the X Factor stage with pineapple on his head, and the fruit itself became a cult hit last year with the Japanese tune Pen Pineapple Apple Pen.

OUTLANDER CAITRIONA CANT WAIT FOR MORE SEASONS

CAITRIONA Balfe reckons there will be many more seasons of Outlander if the books are anything to go by.
Catriona who was in Glasgow's Radisson hotel for BAFTA Scotland where she won a Best Actress award said: "We're definitely finishing season three and filming season four and Diana has said book ten will be her last so there's six potential seasons in there.
I think everyone, we love this show, we love this job.
As long as the story is interesting and the writing is good, I'm up for continuing so we'll see how long it goes for."
Caitriona said of her award: "We've won things before and we have an amazing Scottish crew and most of our team is Scottish and it's really nice to get recognised here in Scotland cause everyone puts their heart and soul into the job and I think it's important for everyone who works on the show so that's cool."

OUTLANDER'S SAM HEUGHAN GETS THUMBS UP DURING RONALD D. MOORE EDINBURGH VISIT

OUTLANDER producer Ronald D Moore has heaped praise on Scots star Sam Heughan.
Speaking at the Edinburgh TV festival he said: "Sam's great. He takes it all in his stride. I don't think he takes himself too seriously. It's great people have such a response to him."
Ron revealed Sam and the cast will be leaving Scotland to go to the Caribbean.
He explained: "We are working on both third and fourth and seasons and third and fourth books. The third book starts in Scotland and we have a big extended story between Claire and Jamie seperately. And they will take a sea voyage across the Atlantic ending up in Jamaica and the Caribbean and eventually the New World. It'll be a whole new look for the show and a big epic adventure for season three. It'll be fun and there's always something new in the show. I like the fact that each season is different from what went before. It's a big challenge for the production but always something exciting."
Ron who says he not on set enough to have some funny stories about the production also claimed he'd love to drop some Klingons into the historical time travel series.
Asked if he'd add in anything if he were allowed free reign on the show he said: "You know it would be nice if the Klingons turned up every now and again, for sure."
Ron who wrote countless episodes of Star Trek as well as Battlestar Galactica also believes Sci fi allows writers to address contemporary issues in society without scaring viewers.
He said: "If you put these things in a science fiction context, you get a free pass, not just from networks, but from audiences as well, because you are allowing them to think about things in a way that doesn't threaten anybody. If you call them Klingons, it's different than if you call them the Soviets. In Battlestar Galactica, if they are the Cylons it's different than if you are saying it's al-Qaida."
Ronald also revealed that he is working on a Philip K Dick anthology series Electric Dreams. He said: "We are going to write some of the short stories that Dick wrote and there are over a hundred of those. Many of the short stories have not been read and some of them have never been turned into television shows. The idea is each writer will be inspired by a particular film or short story so each writer will realise a different show week after week so it will be like mini movies we are putting on every day."

Extracts of this interview were sold to the Scottish Sun.

SAM HEUGHAN INTERVENES AS WILLIAM SHATNER BOLDLY ARGUES WITH OUTLANDER CAST AND FANS

OUTLANDER star Sam Heughan and his castmembers appear to have been getting trolled online by Star Trek's William Shatner.
And while the actors seem to be taking it on the chin as playful banter, some of the loyal series fans are a tad dismayed by Shatner's attitude.
The ribbings began after Shatner took the mickey out of Sam's outtfit choice at a Scots press conference for Zero Waste Scotland.
When a fan praised Sam saying he was 'looking freaking awesome', William replied: "Until he put on those shoes."
After Sam asked him for advice on what to wear to his upcoming Tartan Day Parade appearance in New York next month, Shatner then added: "I can call in Betsey Johnson and I'm sure she'd love to advise."
The two actors had been joking previously about a dinner date they'd planned - and Shatner, who claimed he'd been stood up, asked Sam to donate something to his charity auction.
He wrote: "#He now has to bring gifts to redeem himself! 🙁 "
The conversation then took a turn for the worse as Shatner appeared to criticise actor Claire Fraser on the series.
He said: "I (heart) Catriona...she's a fine actress. Claire meh ;)
After that, things got messy as Outlander fans were quick to jump to Claire's defense.
Shatner, who referred to the loyal fans as Cray Cray's (crazies), then had a pop at actor Richard Rankin who plays Roger Wakefield on the show.
When Richard asked Shatner if he was trying to get a spot on the series, Shatner replied: "Yes Lord of the Blue rocks"
He also said: "You have no idea how desperate I am to go to the cold Scottish highlands and create box jumping pastimes, before adding : "So you are another crazy who is on that show."
Richard replied: "Now Mr Shatner. To insult me is one thing but to insult my colleagues is quite another."
Author Diana Gabaldon then tried to calm things down by joking: "A simple Yes would have sufficed."
The slanging match continued until Shatner, who also appeared to insult Diane by saying he'd read Wikipedia rather than the eight Outlander books, let rip:
"You know RikRankin I did some research and decided you are not relevant until the second part of next season IF at all XO."
Even Sam Heughan had to intervene by asking: "Play nice boys."
Shatner then sloped off adding: "I'll be back later to cause more aggravation..."
Looks like there's more drama going on here than in the actual books!
