SOHO HOUSE CONFIRM GLASGOW OPENING WITH VIP DINNER ON CITY ROOF

SOHO House have now confirmed they will open their first venue in Scotland with Soho House Glasgow expected to open in Glasgow next year.

Located just off George Square, Soho House Glasgow will have various spaces for members to eat, drink and socialise across four floors including a roof terrace.

The redevelopment of the former Glasgow Parish Council Chambers and Collectors Hall form part of the Love Loan urban regeneration project which is taking shape in Glasgow’s city centre.

Soho House & Co CEO Andrew Carnie said: “From its renowned School of Art to its rich architectural heritage and the city’s lively music scene, Glasgow has a creative energy which makes it an exciting choice for our first Scottish location. Over the last year, we’ve been building a diverse and creative community of members in Glasgow with Cities Without Houses and can now confirm that we’re bringing a Soho House to the city. We couldn’t be more humbled by the warm reaction we’ve received so far.”

Glasgow-based creatives who are interested in joining Soho House’s existing community in the city can apply for Cities Without Houses membership – giving access to local events hosted by Soho House as well as entry to Soho House locations globally when they travel.

https://www.sohohouse.com/membership/cities-without-houses

The announcement comes as Soho House hosted an intimate dinner to celebrate the House coming to the city with CWH members from Glasgow and Edinburgh and the local creative community on the roof of The Schoolhouse building in Glasgow’s southside, which is home to the Indestructible Language installation by artist Mary Ellen Carroll.

Commissioned for COP26 in 2021, the artwork consists of a series of eight-foot-high red neon characters which illuminate Glasgow’s skyline.

Theshowbizlion.Com had the pleasure of attending the event to catch up with Scotland’s creative talent including Jean Johansson, Sanjeev Kohli, Martin Compston and Gerard Butler.

Conversations we’re as sparkling as the champagne and cocktails on offer and there was a definite buzz on the air.

We can’t wait to tell you more as the venue is launched properly next year.

SIR BILLY HAS NEW DOG FOR LOCKDOWN

SIR Billy Connolly has posed with a new dog he has adopted through lockdown - and his wife Pamela Stevenson says the pampered pooch’s favourite place to hide is inside his shirt.
Pamela posted up the latest picture of Glasgow born comedian Billy on Twitter with his latest fur baby as she let fans know that he was safe and well despite Coronavirus hitting all over the world.
Billy, 77, who is at his home in Australia looked relaxed and healthy as he wore a black T-shirt and shade and showed off his tattooed arms in the sunshine.
He lovingly held Rascal who is said to be a toy poodle or chipoo with an injured leg.
Pamela wrote: “Billy’s brave new pal. That broken leg is not stopping him for a second...“
The picture of cuteness attracted so many comments from fans of the funny man. Many asked after his health following his Parkinson’s diagnosis in 2013.
Pamela followed up by telling them: “Thanks for all your questions! Replies: Yes Billy is doing well and staying safe thank you!
No idea on the breed. Toy Poodle maybe Chipoo? - name is Rascal. Likes resting inside Billy’s teeshirt.”
Rascal, who was compared to a teddy bear by Pamela's followers, is the latest furry addition to Billy’s home. In a similar post in November, Billy was seen with another pooch in his arms and Pamela told followers online: “Billy just adopted a rescue pal! The savage beast is called Lincoln.”
The picture of Billy and his new puppy is the first since coronavirus lockdown and comes after the comedian reportedly said in March that he wasn’t concerned over Covid 19.
He said at the time: “It’s very weird. It seems like it’s not really happening. I’m not concerned. Maybe I would if there were screeching up the street or people were grabbed and hustled away. I don’t know what is going on. Everybody seems bewildered. Even the experts seem bewildered on the telly.”

STILL GAME'S JACK AND VICTOR GIVES SCOTS PATIENT SPECIAL SUPPORT

A Scots hospital patient with a rare genetic disease was thrilled to bits when she received a get well message from Still Game's Jack and Victor.
Sharon McNeilly, 43, from Cumbernauld suffers from the rare condition Von Hippel Lindau syndrome, an inherited disorder causing multiple tumours, both benign and malignant in the central nervous system.
Only 4-500 people in the Uk suffer from it and symptoms of the condition include headaches, problems with balance and walking, dizziness, weakness of the limbs, vision problems, and high blood pressure.
Sharon who has already had four brain operations to remove rumours as well as spinal surgery is due to go in for adrenal and whippes surgery on Monday.
Her husband Andrew who is recovering from cancer himself bumped into actors Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill as they filmed around Glasgow this week and asked if they would send a special message to her.
The lads went one better by videoing themselves in character delivering a humorous get well message that looks like an excerpt from Still Game.
In their message Greg says: "Hello Sharon we hear that you are recovering from a major operation."
Ford adds: "We're here to say we're wishing you all the well in your recovery and we hope that you're Still Game."
Greg then continues: "That's right Make sure you get lots of rest and that this dumpling makes all your teas and all your dinners and all your breakfasts. Get your goonie on, your telly on. Get well soon darling.
And Ford who then jokingly breaks his walking stick in half chips: "Otherwise I'll be snapping the stick.
Sharon who managed to get home for a few days from hospital before the big op said: "I can't stop smiling about this. Ford and Greg are absolutely fantastic and I've been a fan of Still Game ever since it first was performed as a stage show years ago. I'm absolutely over the moon that I have a personalised Jack and Victor message."
Sharon's husband Andrew added: "The lads were only too happy to put a smile on her face in between filming. I've had a similar operation to my wife's when I had cancer and I know it's a big op. She had to take time off her job at SSE Scottish Hydro as a result of her illness and had been trying to stay positive throughout this. Ford and Greg really managed to make her smile with their unique message."

STILL Game cast and crew have been giving subtle hints as to who might die in the new series - and they are suggesting it might not be of old age!

It's been revealed that someone will kick the bucket in the new series of the BBC show and bookies Ladbrokes have even been taking bets on who that might be.
Now as filming reached its final day Jane McCarry and the crew have been tweeting a series of pictures teasing fans about who will go.
Jane McCarry held up a make up set marked Autopsy Palette as she told fans: "Ye seeing that? The autopsy palette. Ohh the plot thickens.. a suspicious death per chance?"

And series producer Jacqueline Sinclair also showed off a menu from the set that appeared to also suggest some kind of mysterious Denise. Dishes from the set included Don Coreone Pasta parcels in a Betrayal ragu (gluten free)
It looks as if Craiglang's latest victim doesn't necessarily die of natural causes.

JUDGE RINDER ON NEW STRICTLY HOPES DURING EDINBURGH VISIT

FORMER Strictly contestant and qualified barrister Judge Rinder says he hopes Debbie McGee wins this year's competition. He said: "I had a ball on Strictly and we all got on so well. I like Debbie and she's a person who is over fifty who has a really good chance of winning and I think that's great. Of course I won't be watching because I'll be too depressed."

CALVIN HARRIS THROWS IN THE TOWEL AS TWO SCOTTISH DRINKS COMPANIES BATTLE IT OUT

WHAT do you get one of the worlds biggest Dj's and producers as a present for going to number one in the UK?
Proud Scotsman Calvin Harris who is worth an estimated £190 million has revealed his record company got hold of some Irn BRU beach towels to celebrate his success with new single Feels.
In an Instagram post the Dundee hitmaker told fans: "Thanks Columbia Records for my IRNBRU beach towels to celebrate my number one single in the UK."
Rival Scots drink makers Tennent's Lager have now waded into the gift giving by offering Calvin one of their limited edition towels. They said: "Hmm, not bad. But this is what you REALLY came for. #HereToServe #TapsAff #beachtowelbattle."
Global stars often get huge presents from their record companies for going to the top spot. As well as large sums of money, Bruno Mars was once presented with a boxed 24-carat gold Rolex watch. Other stars have received fast cars and exotic holidays from their labels - but we know Irn Bru is priceless.

SCOTS TELLY PRESENTER EWEN CAMERON IN NAKED TELLY SHOCK

SCOTTISH telly presenter Ewen Cameron was left red faced after a female magician ended up stripping and jiggling her bits in his face during a recording of his TV show.
And last night telly chiefs were still deciding at the eleventh hour whether or not to screen the sexually risqué segment for the presenter's Late Show on STV 2.
Audience members at the afternoon live recording of Ewen's show were left aghast after magicians Peter and Bambi Heaven got carried away with their act and Bambi continuously groped Peter on the show.
One onlooker said: "Even as they were sitting down waiting to go on screen the lady magician was touching the man between his legs."
During the segment Bambi emerges from a box - but unknown to Ewan and the crew she had slipped off her clothes.
Before anyone could stop her she had jumped up on Ewen's desk as the flustered presenter tried to stop her from pushing her breasts in his face.
Ewen told audience members afterwards: "I'm in shock. I had no idea that was going to happen. It was pretty extreme and we had no idea at all on the show that the act would be so sexually outrageous. We hope no one was offended."

Russell Brand, Judge Rinder, Jon Snow, Ruth Davidson, Nicola Sturgeon, and other well known faces from the telly and internet world are coming to the Edinburgh TV Festival this month.
Scottish Conservative MSP for Edinburgh Central and Leader of the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party, Ruth Davidson will interview Jon Snow as part of the Edinburgh International TV Festival.

In the Post MacTaggart Interview, Ruth will pose questions and debate the central themes raised in Jon’s James MacTaggart Memorial Lecture.
Russell Brand will also offer his views in the alternative MacTaggart Memorial Lecture at the fest and you can now buy public tickets.
Interviewed by XFM co-host and comedy writer behind Channel 4’s The Mimic and Very Important People, Matt Morgan, delegates will get a unique insight into the career of Brand about his lifelong devotion to comedy; his extensive portfolio of work on and off the screen; and how his call for revolution has been realised in a personal way, in love and fatherhood.

Having Matt on board as someone who knows the complexities and inner workings of this titan of comedy, and who can give genuine insight into his creative brain, will make this one unmissable hour."

THREE YEAR OLD SCOOPS TROPHIES AT SCOTTISH COMEDY AWARDS

THE tiny winner of Best Actress for the Scottish Comedy Awards was unable to attend the stylish bash last night - because she was tucked up in bed.

Three year old Isla Nelson from Glasgow also won Best Online Comedy for News At Two with her dad Mark m at the fourth annual event in Edinburgh's Le Monde hotel.
The night which also gave an award for Outstanding Achievement in Comedy to Richard Gadd, and an Outstanding Achievement in Comedy Award to Steven Dick, writer of Have I Got News For You saw a host of names from the world of comedy and entertainment turn out for an evening of laughter.

The legendary Funny Farm Collective from 1988 consisting of comedians Fred MacAulay, Bruce Morton, Parrot, Libby MacArthur, Stu Who and David Cosgrove got back together to collect a Lifetime Achievement Award at the event which saw
Bay City Roller Stuart Woody Wood, Lottery winner Jane Park, and Scottish Big Brother finalist Andrew Cruickshanks who just got out the house receive a light roasting in the audience.
Scotland Tonight's Rona Dougall, X Factors Caitlyn Vanbeck, and comedy duo The Dolls also had a laugh and joke during the ceremony.
Other winners on the night included Scottish mindreader Colin Cloud who recently wowed Mel B on Americas Got Talent by telling her what she had for dinner, and Neil 'Wee Man' Bratchpiece who won an award for best writer.

Alan Anderson organiser of the night said: “2016 was a stand out year for Scottish Comedy. Richard Gadd being the first Scot in 29 years to win the Edinburgh Comedy Award was without doubt the highlight. There is a great pool of talent on the stand up circuit with the likes of Susie McCabe and Scott Agnew finally reaching the potential we have all predicted. On the radio, BBC’s Breaking The News has also given a break to several excellent Scottish comedians and writers proving that we can do satire better than London. However it’s on the small screen that Scotland is experiencing a vintage period thanks to the brilliant UK wide response to Scottish shows such as Two Doors Down, Scot Squad and Still Game… not to mention the juggernaut that is Frankie Boyle."

FERNANDO RICKSEN CELEBRATES HIS 41ST BIRTHDAY IN BENIDORM

FERNANDO Ricksen battled against the odds to greet hundreds of his awaiting fans last night at his 41st birthday party in Spain.

The stricken Rangers legend has been suffering from Motor Neurone Disease after being diagnosed with it in October 2013.
Despite failing health, Fernando and his wife Veronika attended a special party in his honour at the Ibrox Bar in Benidorm.

Locals as well as dedicated fans from around the world gathered at the bar adorned with the famous blue and white memorabilia and team kit in the holiday resort to pay their respects and wish the Dutch star and former right back and right midfielder a happy 41st birthday.
After fighting against the debilitating disease, at the eleventh hour Fernando admitted it was touch and go whether he could attend the bash.
Theshowbizlion.com met up with Fernando near his home in Valencia to give him a special present of a personalised front page of The Sunday Post before we headed to the party with him in Benidorm.
Opening his gift, he said "Thankyou. It's great."
Veronica added:"I feel like a small child opening his present for him."
Making the two hour journey from his home in the sweltering heat of Valencia to the bar in the Costa Blanca, Veronica and Fernando said: "We'd love to stay in Benidorm tonight but we can't. We have to get back for our four year old daughter Isabella. It is too much for her to make the journey tonight and too late for her."
Fernando summoned all his strength to attend the birthday bash. In the days before the event, he said he had had some bad days but that the love of the fans gave him the power to go on.
He added: "I'm tried but still ok."
Footballers including Nacho Novo, Marco Negri and Michael Mols had sent messages of support to the star on his birthday two days ago while Alex McLeish had earlier joked via a personal message that he was sorry he couldn't make it but hadn't been invited.
Rangers FC also told fans: "Please join us in wishing #Rangers Hall of Fame inductee Fernando Ricksen a very happy birthday today!"
Fernando himself said he was extremely excited about the party and specifically asked organisers to play some Rangers anthems as well as his theme song and Abba classic Fernando.
In the weeks running up to the event had also asked bar owner Wilma Wallace to make everyone feel relaxed and to help raise money for his MND charity The Fernando Ricksen MND Foundation.
Wilma who was originally from Dunbarton before moving to Clydebank in Glasgow decked out the blue and white themed bar with messages of congratulations for the Rangers legend.
She added: "We are thrilled to welcome Fernando here again. He likes things very relaxed, the same as other punters do. It was always going to be a casual affair with a chance for fans to get up close with their idol. Tonight was all about making Fernando feel special and we have hundreds of people who have taken over the terraces here tonight.
"The most important thing was that people could see him and get their picture taken with him. I myself have been a Fernando fan ever since he's been in Rangers. He was always the best looking and a wild boy. He is a legend and we were honoured to host his birthday here. He has come to the bar to celebrate his birthday for the last three years."
We have organised special Fernando cocktails with vodka, peach schnapps, blue balls and lemonade and we also presented his charity with a large cheque this evening."
Last year was an important birthday for him because it was his fortieth and every year makes it so much more special that he is fighting the disease and making his plight known. He wants to let people know what it is like living with motor neurone disease and raise money for his charity."

CHESNEY HAWKES FEELS FRISKY IN PERTHSHIRE AT REWIND

Chesney Hawkes said playing Rewind Festival in Scotland ended up making him randy.
The hunky One and Only singer who recently shocked GMB viewers with his youthful looks was playing the eighties and nineties Rewind Festival at Scone Palace in Perth when he admitted he was getting a bit hot under the collar.
He explained: "I've been doing lots of these kind of festivals up and down the country and it's been great fun.
There's been a lot of nudity actually and it's been quite sunny, not as sunny today but you never know, I might feel a bit frisky. We'll see how it goes. I've not had a chance to see nudity yet but I will be searching it out."
Chesney who later had dinner with Go West and Nik Kershaw back at his hotel revealed he is also planning a new track with Nik in a forthcoming album. He said: " I'm working on an Americana style album cause I live in LA now so I've been working with more country stuff. That's my passion when Im not sitting in a tent getting wet in the rain. I'm halfway though and there's not a Nick song on it yet but there will be. It could be inspired by the rain and nudity in Scotland."

JASON DONOVAN GETS HIS PERTHS MIXED UP ON SCOTTISH REWIND VISIT

JASON Donovan claimed he thought he was playing Perth Australia when he was originally asked to attend Rewind Festival in Perth Scotland.

The singer who performed at Rewind Festival on Sunday night laughed: "When they said I was coming to Perth I thought I was going to catch a plane ticket Western Australia but I landed here in Sunny Scotland."
