PULP’S JARVIS COCKER VISITS COLLABORATOR BANKSY’S EXHIBITION IN GLASGOW

PULP legend Jarvis Cocker visited The Banksy exhibition the day after headlining the stage at TRNSMT festival.

Jarvis who was a true entertainer at the fest, said Glasgow was the furthest north he had been and even got the crowd singing happy birthday to Ringo Starr to wish him a happy 83rd as he performed a set of classic hits.

The Common People hitmaker, who theshowbizlion.Com last met after an appearance in Glasgow at SWG3 to perform a dance floor meditation in 2018, where he got the audience including our chief lioness to lie on the backs on their backs on the floor, was also in a relaxed mood, following his big stage appearance.

Jarvis, who even threw some fudge at the crowd to celebrate World Chocolate Day during his set in Glasgow Green, arrived back at his hotel around midnight.

He told theshowbizlion.com that he was enjoying himself during his time here and was planning to attend the Banksy exhibition in the city centre’s  Gallery of Modern Art within the next few hours.

Jarvis said: ”I haven’t seen Banksy yet, but I will do tomorrow.” He also signed a fans CD before heading indoors.

Jarvis and Banksy are believed to be good friends with Jarvis, even contributing a special musical composition for Banksy’s Walled Off hotel in Bethlehem.

PETER DOHERTY IS HEADING TO BARLINNINE PRISON

LIBERTINES singer Peter Doherty is heading to Barlinnie Prison as part of a major exhibition exploring prison reform.

The colourful frontman will be showing off a Collection of photography and art form himself and  Barlinnie artists to give fans an intimate glimpse into his  world...

'PETER DOHERTY v BARLINNIE PRISON', an exclusive exhibition of the Libertines frontman and Barlinnie prison artists, gets its first UK date, which has been announced today (Wednesday 16th June)

Launch night in Glasgow will include Disco Punk DJ Set from Peter Doherty & Bosco.

Opening 22nd September 2021, Peter Doherty v Barlinnie, is the first major exhibition exploring prison reform, rehabilitation and redemption between Scottish prisoners and The Libertines frontman Peter Doherty.

In Peter Doherty v Barlinnie, curator and artist Joe Henry, will use the traditional life drawing class to stage a performance and event inside the gates of Barlinnie prison, with Doherty as model and subject.

The exhibition will present the resulting 11 drawings from the inmates, to be presented alongside a selection of Doherty's own artworks chosen by Doherty himself and curator Joe Henry, that depict Doherty's subversive world of art, music and poetry, and his far reaching influence on popular culture.

The drawings included in the exhibition will be created July 2021, during a one-day life drawing class, using Doherty as the life class model. The class will be held at the Fife college Art Room inside the gates of Barlinnie prison and include eleven artists drawn from Barlinnie's diverse prisoner communities, ranging in age from 19 to 65, with varying backgrounds and levels of education and experience. The exhibition will also include photography from Sarah Thompson and Pauline Darley.

Henry's collaboration with Doherty as the subject is essential to his concept. A pioneer artist & musician. Doherty has been described as the modern day Jack Kerouac, his poets are for the romantics & his music is the rebellious sound of youth.
Following the radical tradition of the Scottish bard Robert Burns, a man with a lifestyle seen in its day as every bit as wild as Doherty's, The Libertines frontman has also himself spent time behind prison bars, and knows the importance of prison reform, rehabilitation and redemption for these new artists.

As part of the exhibition there will be an introduction written text / essay from Christopher Bailey (head of art, World Health Organisation), on the importance of creation in confinement and using art as a form of healing.

Peter Doherty v Barlinnie will open 22nd September 2021 at Platform gallery, (formely the Arches) Glasgow. 253 Argyle St, Glasgow G2 8DL
Tickets available from Skiddle and Tickets Scotland.
Launch night in Glasgow will include Disco Punk DJ Set from Peter Doherty & Bosco. From 7pm till Midnight

Mick Stoney, Barlinnie Governer said;
“Art in prison provides the opportunity for expression and is a form of coping, creating something positive and a chance for the men to see themselves as something different. This project provides an injection of energy that prisons often need to support engagement and change. The chance to have their art displayed publicly will be affirmation that they can create a new identity and have the skill to contribute positively, a unique project which I hope leads to positive outcomes for all involved”.

Joe Henry curator said;
I've always been a fan of Pete Doherty. His poetry and his music have influenced a generation. His artwork has the same chaotic punk energy of his sound and is similar in style to the art of Jean Michel Basquiat.
This exhibition will see Pete on a different platform, behind the prison gates of Scotland's toughest prison, Barlinnie. Working with mixed media artists, using Doherty as their canvas to work from. We are hoping by staging this event, that this will inspire the participating artists on their road to recovery, and bring the conversation of prison reform to a bigger audience."

LEWIS CAPALDI SHOWS OFF TALENT DURING NAKED LOFE CLASS

Beverley Lyons
LEWIS Capaldi wasn’t sure of where to look as he took part in a hilarious life drawing class with Capital radios Roman Kemp.
The Someone You Loved hitmaker admitted he was flustered as he came eye to eye with life model Michael’s bits and bobs during the session.
As six foot tall Michael walked in wearing just a towel round his modesty, Lewis who wore an artist’s black berry for the occasion, said : ”Alright mate, how’s it going?”
After he whipped it off, Lewis looked up from preparing his paint palette, shook his head and laughed nervously: “I can see why you are a lifedrawing model. I’m all flustered, just cause mine doesn’t look like that. There you go. Good for you mate, good for you I have to say. I’ll start with the face obviously.”
Asked by Roman what it felt like having a number one album, Lewis said: “I’d imagine it’s a very similar feeling to what I’d feel like if my penis was that size. I don’t know what I’ve f***ing drawn here to be honest.”

As Lewis tried to talk about his witty Instagram posts and time on the Late Show in America, he was distracted saying: “I just can’t stop looking at your....good for you. Good for you. God. It’s still quite chilly in here as well and it’s still...Sorry, Is everyone’s like that or is it just me, what was I saying?”
Lewis said he was thrilled about Star Wars legend Mark Hamill posting on Instagram about his ‘incredible’ voice, and added: “Luke Skywalker, Look Skycocker.”
Lewis also said he feared there might one day be a bad headline about him going for a wee somewhere.
He said: “I’ll go for a pee somewhere and it’ll turn out to be somewhere like in a graveyard or something. Someone will be like, Lewis Capaldi pees against grave, like Lewis Capaldi has no respect for the dead kind of thing. That’s only because I’ve got a small penis. If I had that they’d be like, Lewis Capaldi pays his respects to the dead.”

During his six minute chat with Roman for the Capital Breakfast show Lewis looked intensely at the model.
He said: ”This last bits taking quite a while.
You know as well as I do what bits I’m focusing on now. I don’t have to do any hair so thanks for that.”
As Roman prepared the final reveal of their life drawing pictures to a ‘Big Bake Off moment’ Lewis said: “I’ve definitely ignored any facial features cause you don’t really need them when you’ve got...Does yours look like that?I’m so sorry. God I feel so inadequate”
Roman revealed his sketch, featuring a small appendage and compared Lewis sketch to a cave painting,
Lewis laughed: “Imagine finding this in the Maian ruins. This is ridiculous you can’t do Michael like that. I think I’ve just focused on what we can all agree was a penis. The Dick n Dom in the Bungalow, the Ant n Dec, Thr Chas and Dave was distracting. I can’t really remember what’s happened. All I know is that I was sat with Roman Kemp and there was a guy with a penis in here and it was out for some reason.”
Lewis is set to appear  in Edinburgh’s Princes Street Gardens on August 13 and 14 and heads to the States in September.

IS THIS AN EARLY PICTURE OF PAISLEY LAD PAOLO NUTINI?

Exclusive
Beverley Lyons
YOU might think this is a picture of Scots singing talent Paolo Nutini - but it’s not.
The Paisley heartthrob had an even more famous doppelgänger in 1916 - in the shape of the superbly talented Charlie Chaplin.
Paolo’s fans have been going crazy over the facial similarities between the famous silent movie star from London and the Sunny Side Up and New Shoes singer.
Though decades apart they both appear to sport the same hairdo, have similar eyes, lips and jawlines and even seem to have the same taste in trendy clothes.
The picture of a 27 year old Charlie was posted online by Brazilian digital colourist and restorer Marina Amaral who decided to restore the old image and show it to her followers.
She told them: “Chaplin became a worldwide icon through his screen persona "the Tramp" and is considered one of the most important figures in the history of the film industry. His career spanned more than 75 years, from childhood in the Victorian era until a year before his death in 1977.”
As soon as she showed off her new image it was shared throughout the net.
Sound engineer Martina Brennan said of the pic: “Image of Paolo Nutini. #Charliechaplin #paolonutini #lookalike #1916.”
And she wasn’t the only one.
Gazza from Glasgow added: “Looks like Paolo Nutini” while  Lydia Hannah said: “Yes he does resemble him.”
Jen McPartland from Manchester also commented on a black and white original version of the photo saying: “This is a picture of a young Charlie Chaplin !! Who else can see the similarities with Paolo Nutini?? This along with the famous speech of Charlie's that Paolo put into his song iron sky !! That some weird synchronicity right there 😲 #paolonutini #charliechaplin #ironsky #lookalikes
Both talents do have some other creative things in common.
Like Paolo, Charlie Chaplin was an accomplished  songwriter having had hits with his composition Smile from Modern Times in 1936 and his Oscar winning music for Limelight as well as Petula Clark classic This Is My Song.
Meantime Paolo’s monster song Iron Sky from the album Caustic Love features an audio excerpt of the famous speech Charlie Chaplin gave in his film The Great Dictator in (1940). Like Chaplin Paolo feared that man is slowly being replaced by machines and pleads for unity and humanity in our world.

GLASGOW PIGEON STUDENT IS COOING FOR JOY

GLASGOW art student Charlotte Flick is cooing for joy after her video of a pigeon getting mouth to mouth resuscitation went viral.
Charlotte, 19, who is originally from Leeds but lives in Glasgow came across the scene as she was walking along the city's Sauchiehall Street.

She said: "I was just outside Tesco when I saw a woman stopping in her path to pick up what looked like a dead pigeon. I started filming her because it just looked so weird."
Charlotte who says she is scared of birds after a pigeon once flew into her face admitted she was grossed out by the woman blowing into the pigeon's mouth.

She said: "The woman in her thirties was blowing from afar and then got closer and closer to its mouth until she was touching its beak with her lips. She tried pumping its chest too before putting it by a tree when she realised it was dead. It was awful but very nice of the lovely lady to try to save the bird. It would have been an Easter miracle if it had worked."

Charlotte who is studying at Glasgow school of art and goes under the name charlsarts on Instagram has been inundated with notifications on her phone since she posted the video on Twitter. She said: lt's been amazing and it would be great to know who the woman is. Sadly I walked by the pigeon later in the day and it had been ripped open by seagulls."

LOUIS WALSH JUDGES FASHION NOT MUSIC AT JUNK KOUTURE SCOTLAND

LOUIS Walsh admitted he was doing his first bit of work this year as he joined Saturdays' singer Una Healy as judge at the live final of Junk Kouture in Scotland.
And although he claimed he was anything but fashionable, Louis was in fine fettle as secondary kids from across Scotland battled it out with some weird and wonderful creations made from everyday junk.

TheShowbizlion.com was massively impressed by the intricacy of the designs on offer and we saw an array of outfits that could easily grace events like the Oscars or Emmys.
Lady Gaga would have had a field day.

Telly gal Cat Cubie presented the awards while X Factor runners-up Reggie ‘n Bollie entertained crowds at the final, at the SEC Armadillo. Winners included Hillhead Academy who won the performance award for their Highland Cow based dress which included pigs’ trotters.

Una handed over the trophy to the Junk Kouture Scotland overall winner which went to St Paul’s RC Academy with a dress made from old maps.

Louis said: “I've been resting since Christmas and I'm ready to get back to work now. This has been great. The standard this year has been really high and I think we’ve seen some great people for the future of the fashion industry.”
Una who has just released her Nashville inspired solo album added: “We were scrapping backstage to pick the top three. And we were blown away by everybody.”
