CAROL SMILLIE MARRIES 60 MINUTE MAKEOVER CO-HOST JOHN AMABILE!

CHANGING Rooms star Carol Smillie has married her co-star and 60 Minute Makeover host John Amabile - in a Scots wedding ceremony.
John tied the knot with his partner of 19 years, Steven Gormley, at an exclusive ceremony at Hotel Du Vin in Glasgow.
And the wedding was was conducted by fellow Changing Rooms star and Humanist Celebrant Carol Smilie.

John, once voted as one of Scotland’s most eligible batchelors, met  Steve, a leader in executive development over 19 years ago outside a local chip shop.

Carol has been a lifelong friend of John's since their early TV days, and, according to insiders, delivered a personal, funny and beautiful ceremony reflecting both John's and Steve's sense of humour, joy and love and respect for each other.

Carol said: "I've known John for almost 40 years, so no one was more delighted than me when they finally decided to make it official and, even better, ask me to do the honours. It was a very emotional day, and I'm so happy for them both."

John said: “I grew up in Scotland, where homosexuality was illegal until 1980, and we both were so proud on the 31st of January 2014 when same-sex marriages became legal in Scotland."

He continued, "Steve and I discussed getting married at the time, but our schedules were so busy, and we knew we wanted to do something intimate and just for us. The time just slipped with Covid and various other events over the years. But as the old saying goes, "whit's fur ye'll no go by ye".

SCOTS COUPLE HAVE ZOOM WEDDING IN GLASGOW DURING LOCKDOWN

Beverley Lyons

A Scots couple were so disappointed when their wedding was cancelled as a result of Covid 19 restrictions, that they held their own ceremony complete with celebrant, fascinators, confetti and sixty guests with champagne on Zoom.
Diane Ward, 56, a driving instructor and her engineering buyer fiancĂ© Graham Ferrier, 55, from Carnoustie were due to get married at 29 Private Members Club on Glasgow on Sunday May 10 until coronavirus rules stopped them in their tracks.
The couple had chosen the special date specifically because it marked seven years since they first met so they were keen not to lose the sense of occasion - and made an alternative wedding celebration with their wedding planner, humanist minister and guests  on Zoom.
Wendy, who even had to cancel her hen night in Tenerife on March 20, was determined not to let the virus spoil their big day.
She said: “We’d sorted out our wedding banns in February and crossed all the ts and dotted the is. We couldn’t wait to celebrate with all our friends and family at 29 because we’d been on dates there and some great nights out. We realised around the start of April that the physical wedding was going to be cancelled so we set about making an alternative plan to celebrate our big day with our nearest and dearest.
“We invited people to join us on a Zoom link at 2:45pm for 3pm on Sunday and were able to have twenty one different households on with an average of three people per household.
Funnily enough, I had ordered two dresses for my wedding initially - one was slightly bigger than the other - and I ended up wearing that one due to my lockdown eating habits!”
“We asked everyone to get dressed up and couldn’t believe it when some, including Graham’s mum ended up wearing a fascinator. It was quite funny because some of them had dresses on with slippers or trainers underneath.”

We had guests join us from Paisley, Prestwick, Dundee and Carnoustie and after we all said hello fifteen minutes before the ceremony, we took them out with us to the garden.”
The couple had been sent some hanging basket floral arrangements from 29 and Graham’s sister and brother in law, and they also had a bottle of fizz ready for after their vows.
Graham, who wore his kilt for the actual  ceremony, said: “It took a while to get my mum and dad who are in their eighties onto Zoom but we did a trial run with them ahead of Sunday. There was a bit of snow on the ground when we went into the garden but it soon became sunny. We set the laptop on the table beside the shed and our humanist celebrant Susan Douglas-Scott got us to read our vows. We weren’t able to meet her seven days before the wedding to pick up the official banns due to social distancing so we had a holding ceremony of promise in the meantime until we can do it in the flesh. We promised we’d marry next year and plan to have a proper legal ceremony in 29 on June 20 2021
“My brother played Bruno Mars Marry You online and Diane’s four year old granddaughter Scarlett was our flower girl. She was able to wear her dress for the ceremony and loved dancing around her own garden with her pretty dress and shoes on. We popped open our  bottle of champagne after the vows were taken and everyone toasted us from their respective homes. Our neighbour from next door even popped a confetti tube over us from a safe social distance.”
The celebrations took an hour in total and Diane joked: “Because of the Zoom limit of forty minutes we were on a bit of a timer but we managed to have a honeymoon later that night away in the back bedroom.”
Louize Hollywood, wedding manager for Lynnet Leisure who helped the couple ahead of their physical wedding: “It was lovely to be able to witness the online ceremony on these strange times. The couple booked to have their wedding with us in 2019 and contacted me when things had to change. I work closely with humanist celebrant Susan Douglas-Scott who offered to do an online promise ceremony with them and we transferred the physical date until next year. It was lovely to see the guests all have their full outfits on. We muted ourselves online while Susan read our the vows for the ceremony and then whooped as soon as they kissed.”

DREAMMAKER CHARITY BOSS LES HOEY MBE SAYS I DO ON FEBRUARY 29

Exclusive
Beverley Lyons
DREAMMAKER charity boss Les Hoey MBE couldn’t believe it when his girlfriend of 38 years asked to marry him.
Scots charity head Les, 58, who has helped to make thousands of dreams of critically ill children come true admits he was so shocked he burst out laughing when his girlfriend Mandy Cunningham proposed to him yesterday.
Les, who was heartbroken when his son Darren Hoey was found dead in Edinburgh last year, admits he realised life was too short following the tragedy.
He said: “It’s been thirty eight years Mandy and I have been going out and it’s just been one of those things we’ve left.”
Mandy, 57, a nurse, had returned home from night shift yesterday morning and decided to take advantage of the date - February 29 - a leap year when it is tradition for women to propose to their partners.
Wishaw based Les said: “Mandy went to work last night and came in from the night shift with a What’s On Tv magazine which has the words ‘Marry Me’ on the front cover. It was in relation to a shock proposal from Coronation Street. Mandy waved the magazine in my face and said ‘Marry Me’ and I burst out laughing. O didn’t know what she was on about snd then it clicked. We’ve always thought about it with Darren dying because life is too short. I said yes and then Mandy went to bed because she’d been working all night. I’m really happy and can’t wait to celebrate with friends and family.”

AMY MACDONALD REVEALS SIMPLE WEDDING WITH LOTS OF COCKTAILS

Beverley Lyons
AMY Macdonald claims she’s opted for a low key wedding and asked that friends give her no presents for the big day.
The Under Star and Mr Rock N Roll singer revealed she’s anything but a Bridezilla as she prepares for the big day.
Speaking backstage at Scone Palace for BBC Music’s Biggest Weekend she said: “I’m very laidback. I’m not the big crazy who wants this that or the other. It’ll just be casual fun with loads of laughs and loads of cocktails.”
Asked if her dog would play a part in the proceedings she replied: “He might do. He is so cute.”
I’ve specified that I don’t want anything from anyone. Having them there is present enough.”
Amy who has already hosted her hen weekend for friends holds them close.
She has even written songs about her girlie gang in the past.
She said: “Under Stars was written about my best mate who moved to New York and that song was about her. Dream On was about my other mate so they always give me ideas.”
Amy’s appearance at Scone kicked off her U.K. festival season but she claimed she started them as early as April in Europe -halfway up a Swiss mountain.
She said :”We seem to start earlier and earlier now but the best weather is in Scotland. This is the first of my UK festivals. It’s obviously a bit more exciting when you’re home and it feels a bit more magical.
I’ve been so lucky with the support I’ve got all round Europe. I do kind of feel like I’m at home in places like Germany and Switzerland now.
I have had such a loyal fan base for such a long time so it’s always the same faces there but there is something very special playing a home crowd.”

Amy also suggested anyone wanting to follow In her footsteps would have to play Toilet Tours.
She explained: “Just perform as much as possible, that’s the thing. I just constantly went to open mic nights and did millions of little gigs and it meant that when the time came that suddenly I was meant to be professional and doing proper gigs that I was used to doing it. Whereas a lot of younger artists are kind of thrust in to the limelight with no experience of actually performing live, and to me that’s the most important part. That’s where you really prove that you can do it and I think with so many people they don’t get that experience early on and it’s a bit harder for them to sustain it. So for me I would just say just keep playing and play anywhere really. They call them the toilet tours - they’re the ones that you do at the beginning, so do as many toilet tours as you can.”
She loved playing the Biggest Weekend which is also taking place in Swansea, Belfast and Coventry with headliners like Ed SheeranSnow PatrolLiam Gallagher - and his brother Noel In Scotland.
She said: “It’s great to be part of this, obviously Squeeze started us off and it sounded absolutely brilliant. Obviously Noel Gallagher is an amazing headline. I think that we’ve really lucked out with the Perth leg of the festival because I think we’ve probably got one of the strongest headline acts. I saw him perform at Bellahouston Park I think last year and it was an amazing set so I think it will be more of the same tonight.”

SHARLEEN SPITERI AND MCCARTNEY TALK DRESSES AND MERINGUES...

TEXAS singer Sharleen Spiteri reckons says she could sort her wedding in two minutes after Paul McCartney's daughters Stella and Mary offered to help her out.
And the Scots born star who is performing for BBC Music Day with the Scottish Symphony Orchestra at Glasgow's Barrowlands tonight made it clear she would not be wearing a flouncy 'meringue' style dress to her for forthcoming nuptials with celebrity chef Bryn Williams.
Sharleen who reckons now is 'exactly the right time and the right man for me' said: "We're going to get married and people keep saying have you put a date in? The best laugh is that my mates have put a date in. My girlfriends have decided. They say 'we've put a date in for your wedding, and I say, 'Go and tell Bryn that. He'll be happy.'
She added: "The great thing about being married at this age is that literally you're so connected. Everybody is saying they'll do different parts of the wedding. Literally, one of my mates is the best florist in the world and I've got Stella ( McCartney) saying 'I'm doing you a dress.' She's in on that. Mary (McCartney) is taking photographs and I should be ok for sorting out entertainment and Bryan can do the catering.
"We've got the total midlife set of getting married at this age so I'd advise people this is a good time to get married when everybody has got all big jobs where they can pull every favour in book. I could literally sort this in two minutes. As long as I'm there with all my friends and family and have a good old day with good food, good wine and some great company, that's all you need."
Asked if she would be wearing converses under her dress or opt for a meringue like number she laughed: "I do have heels. When you see me in a dress have I ever done a meringue? It's not my bag and Stella doesn't make meringues. Meringues to eat maybe."
Sharleen also talked of her love of the Barrowlands venue where she has orated over the years.
She said: "It still has that magic. I always remember seeing this area backstage because of the history of the bands that have stood and sat here, sitting having a drink chatting away. Buildings hold history and I feel really special here. I put Barrowlands up there with Abbey Road for great gigs and records there.
She said: "Whenever I see musicians speaking politics I think what a w***er. I feel it's not my position to push it onto everyone else."
Sharleen also said she's miffed she'll miss the Scotland England game because it clashes with her performance at aisle of Whyte,.
She said: "I'll be on stage exactly at that f***ing point. I thought is this a p*** take? We're doing Isle of White on Saturday and the kick off is at five pm and we are on stage at five thirty so it's a sick joke. Seriously, either play before it or we're F***d if we play after it because if Scotland win we'll be happy and they won't be and if Scotland loses we won't be. It's one of those ones.

JILTED BRIDE INTERRUPTS GLASGOW WEDDING COUPLE'S FIRST DANCE

HERE'S the hilarious moment Scots newlyweds Michael Grimshaw and David Clark's first dance was interrupted by a jilted bride.
https://www.facebook.com/lees.alorraine9715/posts/1593769350657168
Guests at the couples wedding reception in Giffnock were left in stitches after 'upset' Anne Marie interrupted their romantic first dance with the protest number 'It Should Have Been Me'.
International drag artist Michael from Bishopbriggs married sound and lighting man David from Baillieston at a quiet ceremony in May and their friends threw them a surprise reception this weekend in the Redhurst hotel.
The two lovebirds were happily dancing to Endless Love when the twist in events took place.
David said: "We were still in shock after our friends put on a surprise party at an evening we originally thought was going to be a dance night.
"They even brought our dog down in her pink bridesmaid's tutu. They suggested we dance to Endless Love for our first dance and unbeknown to us David's dance partner Anne Marie Young decided to crash the wedding as a jilted bride. It was so funny. David normally performs the jilted bride number as part of his child friendly drag act so Anne Marie had learned it through time and bought a second hand bridal dress from a charity shop. Everyone loved it."

He added: "We are very happy."
The two lovebirds got together in 2010 following a chance meeting in a lift in SĂŁo Paulo when Marcia invited Pele to see a home renovation she’d done.

Mitchell who hasn't been able to play as much football since being diagnosed a year ago said: "It was amazing. He's such a legend and we talked about football and how he scored goals."

His mum added: "Michael has just finished his treatment after three years and this is a brilliant way to finish it. Pele was lovely and Les did a great job of getting us all to meet him."

ANDY MURRAY AND BROTHER JAMIE MISTAKEN FOR SCOTTISH WEDDING PARTY

Exclusive
ANDY Murray and his brother Jamie were mistaken for a wedding party by a group of Americans as they let down their hair before the Davis Cup.
The two Dunblane born brothers were celebrating Jamie's recent US Open success at a formal dinner in Glasgow's Corinthian club when they confused the tourists.
As a group of pipers welcomed the lads and their rest of their team to the venue around eight pm some of them began congratulating the group and asked who the groom was.
A bystander said: "It was hilarious. The Americans didn't initially realise what they were watching. They just saw the matching blue suits each of the boys were wearing and came to the wrong conclusion."
An amused Andy and the boys laughed things off and still posed for pictures.
Andy's night out came just hours before news broke that Andy will miss his grandfather's funeral to play for Great Britain in the Davis Cup semi-final against Argentina.
Gordon Murray's funeral will be held on Friday as Murray takes on Juan Martin del Potro in Glasgow.
